Rain Bird LNK Wi-Fi setup

    Welcome!!

    This tool will help if you follow each step in order, please read carefully and dont skip steps. 

    As most issues are usually a result of basic WiFi settings. Our staff will only assist you once you can provide the results from the WiFi tests on the following pages. This will speed up our ability to assist you. 

     

    Before we go any further, please reset the LNK module by pressing and holding the button on the module for 15 seconds and then releasing the button.

    If you have multiple extenders and repeaters, or a nest / mesh set up. It would be helpful to turn off some of those devices during this process so the LNK module can pair to the router directly or via one repeater. You can then turn all back on after successful setup. The Rain Bird app cannot work if you are using a VPN, either as the router or on your device. The LNK Module will not connect to a Satellite based ISP.

    Resetting the LNK or LNK2 Module. 

     

    Sometimes you may need to simply reset the module and try the set up process again from the beginning. 

    The simplest way to do this is by opening the Rain Bird app and if your controller is listed, press the rubbish bin icon underneath the image ( next to the water drop). 

    Then on the LNK/LNK2 module, press and hold the small button in the center of the module until you see the LED change colour to orange/yellow (this will take 6-10 seconds). 

    This will allow you try again. If this does not resolve the issue, please proceed by pressing next button below.

    Rain Bird recommend improving your Wi-Fi RSSI before continuing.

    Wi-Fi signal can be strengthed with alternative routers, boosters or by relocating the irrigation controller.

    The LNK WI-FI dongle can only communicate on channel 1-11. If your router is on channels 12-14 you will need to manually change the channel.

    Consult your NBN Router manual for instructions on how to change the broadcast channel. You can usually access your router settings by locating the sticker on your router which will tell you its IP address (eg 192.168.0.1)or (gateway.telstra.com) , and the username and password. Type this address into an internet browser address bar while connected to your network and access the network WiFi settings to view options to change channel .

     You may see this is currently set to AUTO, and an incompatible channel. 

    Your router may automatically adjust channel to avoid interference from neighbouring WiFi networks, you may wish to consider setting a specific channel and disabling the "auto" channel option.

    Please ensure your phone is staying connected to the Rain Bird LNK

    Apple device, go to Settings -> WIFI  and alongside your home network press the blue information button and uncheck "autojoin" , then back in the "Settings" app, scroll down to Rain Bird and check that location is "on" when using, local network is "on", and mobile data is "on". 

     

    Android device 

    As Android covers many different phone manufacturers, each one is different. Please consult your device user guide and familiarise yourself with its settings regarding installed Apps . Specifically how to turn on permissions for notifications, mobile data, and location services for the Rain Bird App. Please disable any settings that cause the phone to leave a wifi network if it cant access the internet.  

     Once connected, return to the Rain Bird mobile app and navigate through the set up screens.

    On the Rain Bird app, please now select " Add controller" then select your controller type. Your Module should now be flashing Blue or red/green so press "Next" at the top right.

    If it was blue, simply select the controller in the list on screen,

    If red/green, You should still be joined to the wifi network RAINBIRD0XXXX, so press "Next" at the top right. Your phone should briefly display " Broadcasting to controller"

    Looking Great !! Continue through the app by naming your controller, entering a postal code, and a password ( keep it simple and easy to remember). You will now be asked to join the controller to your local Wifi Network. Please have your Wifi details handy.

    Select "yes"you wish to connect to a WiFi network. The screen should populate with available WiFi networks, choose your local WiFi network from this list.

    A warning about 5G may appear, but your channel 1-11 confirms you are OK to continue .

     

    You will be asked your WiFi networks password. Enter and continue by pressing "next" at top right.

    Uh Oh, your device is preventing connection.  

     

    Please check your device is still connected to the Rain Bird WiFi, 

    prevent your device from leaving this, or joining other networks as detailed earlier.

     Please ensure permissions are granted as covered earlier. 

    Please dont walk away from controller during the set up process. 

     

    Please reset the LNK by pressing its button until you see a yellow flash, and try this process again.
