Grant Support Program - COM 15 Approved by Regional Board on January 27, 2018 |
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Mid-America
Grant Support Program
BACKGROUND
To foster and develop a partnership between Ministers, the Mid-America Region, and Disciples of Christ (DOC) Congregations, we seek to call out from our midst qualified people into ministry. We acknowledge that the path to Ordained or Commissioned Ministry requires some financial investment. The Mid-America Region helps to alieviate some of these costs during an individual’s journey with the Grant Support Program.
Individuals seeking to share in ministry will benefit the life and mission of local Congregations. Congregations through their ministry to local communities enhance the presence of God’s love and care. Together with the Region, the Church reaches beyond its local community into the state and around the world of God’s creation. Therefore, the Christian Church of Mid-America would establishes a relationsihp between a Candidate for ministry, their local Congregation, and the Region.
There are two essential documents each Candidate will complete on their journey toward becoming a Commissioned or Ordained Minister: (1) a Ministerial Profile (i.e., Ministerial Resume) including a background check, and (2) a Ministerial Assessment (formerly referred to as a 'Psychological Evaluation').
PROGRAM
The Grant Support Program is designed to assist a Candidate with the cost of obtaining a Ministerial Assessent. The Mid-America Regional Ministry Team (RMT) will partner with local Congregations and individuals seeking Commissioning or Ordination to provide financial assitance to those demonstrating a need. A Grant will be supplied in the form of a reimbursement when the required Application for Grant Support Program is received and approved by a Regional Minister.
The Mid-America Region encourages a Candidate and their Congregation to arrange for the specific allocation of costs. It is recommended that each Partner (the Mid-America Region, the Congregation, and the Candidate) pay an equal one-third of the cost to obtain a Ministerial Assessment. The Mid-America Region will send the Candidate a check for the Region's one-third reimbursement once their Application and paid reciept have been received and approved by a Regional Minister.
