Welcome to the College of Education’s student teaching application. You can begin your application any time, and return to finish it when you are ready. Please keep in mind the deadline for your application:
- Fall student teaching: by the previous January 15.
- Winter student teaching: by the previous June 15.
Applications will be accepted after the deadline, however placement priority is given to those students who file in accordance with the deadline dates and it is not always possible to provide placements for those who apply late.
Students applying for student teaching must meet all eligibility requirements, as well as turn in additional materials prior to student teaching. Information is available by clicking here.
If you are a Children and Families major, please use the Children and Families Internship Application, available here: https://tiny.emich.edu/CandFinternship.
As part of the application process, you will be required to submit a single PDF file consisting of both your cover letter and resume. For resume tips and assistance, connect with the Career Development advisors in the UACDC offices: career_services@emich.edu.
The cover letter is an opportunity for you to introduce yourself to your potential cooperating teacher. The cover letter should be in a typical business letter format. You may wish to include information on what has drawn you into teaching, what experiences and education you have had that have formed who you are as a teacher, your philosophy on teaching, and the skills you have that will make you an excellent student teacher. You should address your cover letter generically, rather than to a specific individual, school, or district. An example cover letter is available here: https://tiny.emich.edu/CoverLetterSample.
Your resume is an opportunity for you to provide information on your academic and professional experiences to your prospective cooperating teacher. Your resume should include information on topics such as your academic history, professional work history, and experiences you have had with children and youth. You may wish to include information on recognitions such as scholarships or awards as well as include information on professional, volunteer, or student organizations you may be affiliated with. The resume should be well organized, easy to read, and free from grammatical and spelling errors. An educator job search guide, with resume writing tips, is available here: https://tiny.emich.edu/JobSearchHandbook.
On this resume and cover letter, please use your EMU email address for your contact email.
