• Advanced Tool Training Request

    Generator regularly schedules tool trainings in each of its six shop areas. However, there are some trainings that are not as popular and therefore do not get pre-scheduled. The majority of these trainings have a prerequisite and entail more specialized and technical knowledge. Because of this, they can have varying requirements.   • TIG Welder: 

    This class provides instruction on welding safety, machine setup and settings, basic welding practices (tack, t-joint and butt-joint or v-groove) and troubleshooting.  

    • 2.5 Hours
    • $175 (Includes materials)
    • Prerequisite: Metal Shop Training

  • MIG Welder:

    This class provides instruction on welding safety, machine setup and settings, basic welding practices (tack, t-joint and butt-joint or v-groove) and troubleshooting.

  • Oxy-Acetylene Torch:

    Learn safety procedures, setup, shutdown, basic maintenance and operations of an Oxygen Acetylene Torch. In addition, we will go over various gauge settings and basic use of torch welding tips, cutting extension and rose bud. There will be time at the end of class to practice techniques.

  • CNC Plasma:

    This class provides basic safety & operations training on the CNC plasma cutter.  Students will learn CNC and plasma safety, machine setup, and job setup, troubleshooting steps, tool maintenance, and tricks for cutting up to ½” metals.  By the end of class, students will take home a hefty steel Vermont bottle opener.   

    Students should have working knowledge of software capable of .DXF export, e.g. Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, Solidworks, Fusion360, etc.

  • Vertical Mill:

    This class will cover the basic operational procedures of a vertical milling machine.  Topics covered will be safety, work holding, tool selection, and calculation of cutting speeds. 

    • Two, 2-hour sessions

  • Machine Lathe:

    This class will cover the basic operational procedures of an engine lathe. We'll cover safety, work holding, tool selection, and calculation of cutting speeds.

    • Two, 2-hour sessions
    • $195 (includes materials)

  • Wood Lathe:

    This class provides basic safety and operations training on the Rockwell Delta Wood Lathe, including:
    -Techniques for the spindle gouge, roughing gouge, and scraper
    -Introduction to advanced tools including the skew chisel and bowl gouge
    -Machine maintenance and tool sharpening

  • Laguna CNC Router:

    In this training, you'll use a powerful CNC router to make a sculptural object from plywood. You'll learn the basics of CNC machine safety and standard operation as well as the basics Computer Aided Machining (CAM) and G-code through Fusion 360. It is highly recommened that students have a background knowdge in Camputer Aided Design (CAD), specifically with Fusion 360 before taking this training.

    • 7.5 Hours over three sessions (with a 1-hour pre-watch video)

  • 4 Axis CNC:

    There are endless industrial and creative applications for a 4-axis mill, such as product prototypes, replacement parts, 3D art, sculptures, figurines, and more.  This class covers the safety and basic operations of our Roland 4-axis milling machine. Students will learn to Convert an STL file to be used in Roland's SRP Player software. Import a file into the machine and run a print job, Learn about a variety of materials for use on the machine (plastics, woods, ABS, acrylics and more), and how to size the uncut material before running your job. As well as Learn to clean and maintain the machine

  • After recieving this form, Generator staff will reach out to our instructors to begin the scheduling process. Please note: It can take up to 3-4 weeks from the time we recieve your request to the training date. After being scheduled, trainings will be listed on our website and opened to the wider Generator community. This means it will not necessarily be a one-on-one training.
