About the scholarship
The New Jersey Utilities Association (NJUA) is the statewide trade association for investor-owned utilities that provide essential water, wastewater, electric, natural gas, and telecommunications services to New Jersey residents and businesses. NJUA member companies value diversity in the work place and in education. In 2023, NJUA is awarding the NJUA Excellence in Diversity Scholarship to two (2) students who are minority, female or who have a disability and will be pursuing a Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university located in New Jersey. The scholarship award is $1,500 per year, with a maximum of $6,000. Awards will be paid to the recipient's college or university at the beginning of each semester (fall/spring semester) over four years (to be applied to tuition only, at the rate of $750 per semester Ongoing awards for future semesters will be contingent upon successful completion of the prior semester.
Are you eligible?
- Currently a high school senior; and A New Jersey resident and a legal resident or citizen of the United States with permission to work in this country; and A woman, a person with a disability and/or a member of one of the following minority groups: Hispanic or Latino
- Black or African American Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander Asian American Indian or Alaskan Native
- Two or more races; and Can demonstrate overall academic excellence in high school; and Can demonstrate financial need; and
- A child of a parent or parents not employed by an NJUA member company (NJUA member companies include: Aqua New Jersey Inc., Atlantic City Electric Company, Atlantic City Sewerage Company, Elizabethtown Gas, Gordon's Corner Water Company, JCP&L/ A FirstEnergy Co., Middlesex Water Company, New Jersey American Water, New Jersey Natural Gas, Public Service Electric & Gas Company, Rockland Electric Company, South Jersey Gas, Veolia, and Verizon New Jersey)
How to apply
Go to www.njua.com to download the application. Applicants must submit the completed application with accompanying documentation, marked PERSONAL and CONFIDENTIAL, and postmarked no later than May 31, 2023 to NJUA at the following address: 154 West State Street, 1st. Floor, Trenton, NJ 08608. Applicants may also fill out an application online. Applicants must also submit two (2) letters of recommendation, an essay as outlined in the application, and a recent official copy of your transcript before that date. We understand that letters and transcripts may have to be submitted separately by your school officials, but it is the sole responsibility of the applicants to ensure that all documents are received by NJUA and postmarked by the deadline. Applications or documents postmarked later than May 31, 2023 will not be considered.
Selection process
The scholarship award recipients will be selected by a committee composed of members of the NJUA Human Resource Policy Committee. Recipients will be notified by mid-July 2023. NJUA regrets that it is unable to notify all applicants of its decision.
