  • Playground Policies
Playground supervision requires active supervision. Active supervision is a child safety strategy in which staff constantly monitor children's whereabouts and activities. It differs from passive supervision, where adults are present but not paying close attention to what children are doing. With passive supervision, adults may be talking to each other or working on something else, and as a result, they may be unaware of what is happening around them. Active supervision requires childcare providers to be constantly alert and attentive to what is going on in the environment. This means scanning the room or playground regularly to ensure that all children are accounted for and that no one is engaging in unsafe behaviors that might harm them. The key to adequate active supervision is to remain focused and aware. This can be difficult, especially for childcare providers supervising a large group of children. However, it is essential to remember that even a few seconds of inattention can lead to an accident or injury, so childcare providers should always be alert.

    • Count your children as they exit the classroom, count your children as they enter the
playground enter the playground. Do a face to name on the tablet
    • Always take your classroom tablet with you to the playground
    • Circulate the playground meaning constantly walk around the playground paying attention to
      all the children
    • If you are outside with another teacher, you need to circulate the playground in opposite
      directions
    • Sitting on the playground is strictly prohibited. If you are seen sitting, you will immediately
receive a written warning, If seen again, you will be suspended without pay
    • Talking to the other teachers over the gates/walls is strictly prohibited. If you are seen talking
to teachers over the gates/walls, you will be written up. The second time will be suspension
      without pay.
    • The children in your class MUST stay on the playground you are on. We DO NOT allow
      children to run between playgrounds
    • ALL children MUST wear shoes outside
    • Notify your office staff immediately if you notice any hazards or broken toys.
    • Sweep or Pick up any trash or debris while rotating
    • Never leave the playground for any reason. Even if there's another teacher with you. The
playground is just like a classroom, you cannot leave the room/playground out of ratio for any
      reason.
    • Childrens water cups and a pitcher of water must be taken outside with the class and brought
back inside when playground time is over
    • Count your children as your class comes inside. Do a face to name on the tablet to make
sure all children are accounted for

  • Milestone Academy Employee Attendance Policy

  • Attn: Milestone Academy Team

Our commitment to being present each day is vital for several reasons, especially when it comes to
maintaining the necessary teacher-to-child ratios. When a teacher is absent, it not only affects the
workload of other teachers but also creates a challenge in ensuring that the children receive the
    attention and care they need.

Consistency is key for our little learners. Their daily routines and interactions with familiar faces help create a nurturing environment where they can thrive and feel secure. When teachers are absent unexpectedly, it can disrupt this consistency, which in turn affects the children's comfort and learning experiences.

To streamline our attendance policy and ensure fairness across the board, we'll be implementing
Milestone Academy's employee point policy effective immediately. This policy aims to maintain a fair and equitable approach to attendance and time off.

You'll find detailed information about this policy in the document provided.

    Time Off requests-
One crucial aspect to note is that any time off requests as well as changes in schedule must be submitted in writing, using the designated time off request form, at least two weeks prior to the requested day.

Additionally, it's essential to receive the signed time off request form back from the director at least one week before the requested date. This process allows us to manage scheduling efficiently and ensures that adequate coverage is maintained without causing disruptions to the daily routine of the children.

If, for any reason, you have difficulties obtaining the signed time off request form within the specified timeframe, please feel free to approach me or another designated authority to discuss your situation.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and we aim to address them with flexibility while maintaining the necessary consistency for the children.

Please note, just because you submit a time off request form does not guarantee your time off will be approved.

The administration team tries to be fair in approving time off requests however there may be times
when a time off request is not approved. Time off request may be denied for a number of reasons. Some reasons for denial may be but are not limited to; Another team member has requested the same day that you are requesting and the school cannot maintain safe ratios without you being present, staffing challenges and ratios cannot be maintained with your absence, two weeks' notice not given, no coverage for your shift. Please note- It is Milestone Academy policy not to approve more than one employee off per day however your director may work with you in adjusting your schedule for that day if possible.

If your time off request is denied for any reason and you decide to call out on the requested day, you will receive a written warning and may be placed on a suspension, lose your preferred shift, placed as an on call/substitute employee.

Thank you all for your dedication and understanding in the importance of employee attendance.
Together, we can create a nurturing environment for our children while supporting each other as a
    cohesive team.

By signing, you have read and understand the Milestone Academy employee attendance policy and time of request policy. I agree to adhere to the attendance policy expectations.

    Evidence of Learning Boards

    Student Work Display

These boards exclusively showcase the work produced by the Milestone students. This can include drawings, paintings, crafts, worksheets, and other creative projects that the students have completed during the week.

    • If there is more than one board in the classroom each board must represent a different learning domain. (ie Literacy, Math, Science, Language Development, Art, or Pre-Reading/Pre-Writng.

    Explanation of Work

Each piece of child's work displayed on the board is accompanied by a brief explanation in the center of the board. The explanation highlights the educational objectives or skills that the activity aimed to develop. It could also mention the concepts covered or learning goals achieved through the activity. (These are provided by the director, AD, or ES)

    Weekly Rotation

The content on the boards is refreshed on a weekly basis. This rotation allows for a dynamic display that reflects the ongoing learning journey of the students. It provides an opportunity to regularly showcase the diversity of the activities and skills being developed in the classrooms.

Overall, Evidence of Learning Boards serve as a visual representation is the student's progress, helping to engage parents, caregivers, and school staff in the duration process. The boards not only celebrate the achievements of the students but also provide insights into the curriculum's effectiveness and the learning goals being pursued in the classroom.

    Family Style Dining

Family Style dining in a preschool setting involves creating a mealtime experience that fosters social interaction, communication, and independence among the children while promoting healthy eating habits. Here are the steps involved in implementing family style dinging at Milestone:

    Table Preparations:

Set-up the students table in a way that encourages interaction and collaboration. Use child friendly utensils, plates, cups, and napkins that are easy for students to access and use. Make sure the tables are clean and inviting.

    Meal Presentation:

Place a variety of dishes with different food, utensils, and beverage items at the center of each table. Offer all components at each table provided to the classroom.

    Serve Yourself:

Encourage children to serve themselves. This promotes autonomy and decision-making as they choose their portions and foods. Teachers can assist younger children when needed but should encourage independence.

    Modeling the Behavior:

Teachers and staff play an important role in modeling appropriate behavior during mealtime. They can demonstrate proper use of utensils, table manners, and positive communication.

    Social Interaction:

Family style dining is an opportunity for students to interact with their peers and teachers in a relaxing setting. Encourage conversation, sharing food, and polite conversation. This helps develop social skills and sense of community.

    Adult Involvement:

Teachers sit with students during meal, fostering a sense of togetherness and supervision. They can engage in conversations, facilitate discussions about the food, and provide assistance when needed.

    Positive Reinforcement:

Acknowledge and praise good eating habits, positive interactions, and table manners. This creates a positive atmosphere and encourages children to adopt healthy behaviors.

    Time for Conversation:

Use mealtime as an opportunity to discuss the food being served, where it comes from, review of curriculum done that day, and what to look forward to after the meal.

    Clean-up:

Teach the students the importance of cleaning up after themselves. Encourage them to clear their plates, dispose of waste properly, and pick up all waste from the table and floor. Teachers will wipe the tables and clear remain food before returning dishes to the bin.
