2022 Newsroom Application to Host a Columbia Journalism Intern
Columbia Journalism School is funding up to 27 full-time 10- to 12-week editorial internships for its M.A. and M.S. level graduates in the class of 2022 at INN member news organizations. If your organization wishes to be considered as a potential host, please complete this application. Applications are due January 7, 2022 by 11:59 PST, and applicants will be notified if selected by January 20. This form should be completed by the supervisor of the organization's internship program or a staff member with authority over that program. Please read the complete program description before beginning this application. *Several of this year's interns will be Li Global Reporting Fellows, who are assigned exclusively to international news coverage. Your organization may request to host a Li Fellow and a domestic news coverage intern by filling out two applications.

Selected intern hosts are responsible for covering payroll taxes, workers compensation and other employment benefits as offered to all other temporary full-time employees. Hosts are responsible for all local, state and federal employment tax and payroll filings and compliance with HR requirements. Interns in this program are not independent contractors, and it is important for news organization to understand this before applying to the program. Through INN, Columbia Journalism School will reimburse participating newsrooms up to a total of $8,000 per intern at the end of the internship period, once documentation is provided, to offset the news organization's salary and payroll expenses associated with the internship. Depending on the organization's standard intern pay rate for an MA or MS level graduate and other variables including state and local taxes, this amount may or may not cover all the news organization's expenses associated with hosting the intern.
