  • MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS 2021

  • Selected boys applying for a Music Scholarship will be required to attend an audition on either Monday, 1 March or Friday, 5 March 2021, between 3:00pm-6:00pm. Selected candidates who are not currently enrolled at the Sydney Grammar Preparatory Schools will also be required to gain a satisfactory result in the School's Entrance Examination, which will be held in early May, 2021. Those candidates who sit the Academic Scholarship Examination in February may not be required to also sit the Entrance Exam.

    To be considered, applicants must first submit a video recording of their two pieces. Short listed applicants will be invited for a live audition. Details of how to submit the video recording will be provided on receipt of your application. Videos must be received by February 8th 2021. Videos do not need to be accompanied.

    Auditions will only be held for boys who have already received a high pass in the following specified AMEB examinations or who have evidence of an equivalent standard:

    (with exception of Bassoon and Oboe for which two or more years' tuition would be expected

    A pass in the above grades does not guarantee an audition. *Applications from pianists will not be accepted unless they play a second instrument at the required level. The closing date for registration is Monday, 8 February 2021. No applications will be accepted after this date. Preference will be given to players of orchestral instruments. The scholarship is worth up to 100% remittance of fees, renewable each year to Sixth Form and subject to review by the Trustees, the Headmaster and the Director of Music. The Scholarship also includes payment of Instrumental tuition in two instruments if the boy chooses to learn at the School.

    application form to the audition. This form will be emailed to you if your son is chosen to audition

  • 1.Please have each of your instrumental teacher/s complete and submit the confidential teacher's reference SEPARATELY.

    2. Send copies of examination reports and if required piano accompaniments of audition piece your son will be playing.

    3. The audition will be a maximum of 10 minutes. During this time your son will be required to play two contrasting pieces, one displaying his technical ability and the second demonstrating more interpretative skills such as an ability to play long sustained lines, dynamic contrasts and phrasing. Your son's instrumental teacher should be able to advise you on a repertoire which will fulfil these requirements. If your son is also auditioning on asecond instrument, he should prepare one piece only on this second instrument. Some aural tests may also be given. Are you and your accompanist available to audition on either Monday, 1 March or Friday, 5 March 2021 between 3:00pm and 6:00pm?
