  • Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Before caring for your fresh tattoo, please always wash your hands with liquid antibacterial soap.

To care for your tattoo, you will need the following products:

    • A plain liquid antibacterial soap free of colors, dyes, scents, glitters, etc - I recommend Softsoap or Dial (the gold version)
    • Coconut oil
    • High quality intensive care lotion free from dyes, scents, additives such as Lubriderm or Cetaphil

Leave wrap on per spacified directions, typically 48 hours. This allows time for plasma and blood to come to the surface of the skin and easily be washed away which will lessen the chances of scabbing and promote better healing results.
When you first remove wrap, thoroughly wash tattoo with warm water and a plain liquid antibacterial soap removing any blood, lymph, plasma and excess ink that may have been contained by the bandage/wrap.

After rinsing thoroughly, allow the tattoo to air dry for 5-10 minutes before applying a thin layer of coconut oil - rubbing the product into the skin as much as possible. When using aftercare products remember that less is more - if you can see the product caked or layered on your skin, you're using too much.
You will repeat this process of washing and using coconut oil 4-5 times per day for the first 2 days. Afterwards you may switch to moisturizing with a plain, unscented lotion like Lubriderm or Cetaphil 3-5 times per day until the tattoo is healed in 4-6 weeks, or you may continue to use the coconut oil for this purpose if it better suits you and your skin.

Should you choose to cover or rebandage the tattoo, please keep in mind that this may prolong the healing process or cause adverse reactions to the healing process. I do not recommend doing so, and I think that you should only do so if you find it absolutely necessary or the environment absolutely calls for it. I am not a doctor and I cannot provide medical recommendation on this matter, only my experience with healing tattoos.

Please avoid the following during healing time:
    - Submerging the tattoo in ANY kind of water: bath, pool, lake, hot tub, dishwater -any kind
    - Prolonged exposure to moisture: sweat, water, steam, prolonged showers
    - Prolonged UV radiation including tanning beds and direct sunlight exposure
    - Situations that may cause rubbing, scratching, slapping, friction or damage to your healing tattoo - including your clothing rubbing against it

Please keep in mind the cleanliness of your bedsheets, clothing, or anything else that your healing tattoo is exposed to - especially where pets or other people are concerned.

Please consult a healthcare professional at the first sign of infection or allergic reaction occurs and report any diagnosed infection, adverse or allergic reaction to both your tattoo artist and the Health Department.
