The 2023 Language Access Fellowship application is now open!
Found in Translation is now operating on a rolling admissions calendar and accepts applications throughout the year. Ahead of each class, we will review and process applications in our system on a first-come, first-served basis until our class is full. At that time, applicants who have started our process will be moved to our next cycle and given priority consideration for the following class. We advise applicants with specific semester preferences to apply as soon as possible, and to reach out to us for updates. It is our goal to issue final decisions on acceptance within 2 months of a submitted application.
Found in Translation is encouraging prospective medical interpreters to submit their applications no later than February 1, 2023 in order to be considered for our spring cycle which is presently scheduled to begin in March, 2023.
Found in Translation is now accepting applications to its 2023 Language Access Fellowship program. The fellowship includes a 20-week Medical Interpreter Certificate training, including professional development and followed by ongoing job search support and opportunities for direct job placements. Medical interpreting is a rapidly-growing field with typical entry-level hourly wages for W2 employee between $18 and $22 with full benefits, and between $25 and $35 for contractual and per diem positions. As interpreters, Language Access Fellows will reduce racial, ethnic, and linguistic disparities in health care by giving health care access to patients who are not proficient in English.
Low-income communities are rich in bilingual talent, and our goal is to identify promising candidates with limited economic resources and to support their success in our program and in the medical interpreting profession. The program is free of charge and includes supports such as on-site childcare, transportation assistance, mentoring, career coaching, financial literacy education, job search assistance, job placement, and more.
Recognizing that opportunities to advance in the workforce are stifled by many kinds of inequality, transgender women and women who are veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
Please visit www.found-in-translation.org/application for eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and helpful tips. Also, please review the blog post linked on the application page for updates we have made to our application and eligibility requirements this year. The application takes around an hour to complete. When you are done, you will see a "thank you" page and you will have an option to receive a confirmation email. The essay question is after the "Equity" section and is very important, please treat this as a cover letter. We recommend that you write and save your responses, especially the essay portion, in a separate word processor before copying and pasting them into the application form, so that your work isn't lost in the event of technical difficulties.
