“Motivated to Educate Scholarship”
The research makes it clear: We need to change the culture in STEM. We need to redefine what a scientist looks like in society. The number of girls interested in STEM increases when they have female role models to inspire them and help them envision themselves in these roles.
This scholarship is designed to encourage female African American, Latinx, or first-generation college students to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics. We seek exceptional high school graduating seniors or current college students interested in STEM.
Criteria:

Graduating high school senior or current college student

Proof of University/College acceptance
-
Female student
-
Round Rock, Texas and Greater Austin Area (Central Texas) resident

First generation college student
-
Full-time student (12 hours or more per semester).

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts (Visual and Performing), and Mathematics major
-
3.25/4.0 or 3.75/5.0 overall GPA or higher
-
Demonstrated leadership and/or education drive

Documented community service (40 hours minimum in the last 3 years)

Submit 3 letters of recommendation on official letterhead and addressed to Mu Beta Sigma; 2 letters from either a teacher, counselor, or administrator 1 letter from a community leader

Submit a sealed copy of current school transcripts

Select one of the following topics and submit a 500-word typed essay.
(1)Tell us about a time you failed and what you learned from it.
(2)What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college student/graduate and what impact could it have on your family, community and world?
(3)How will my educational goals impact the community?
