Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a non-profit public service organization founded in 1913. The organization is committed to the ideals of sisterhood, scholarship, and public service.
This scholarship honors the legacy of Soror Erica N. James, who was initiated into the Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the undergraduate chapter at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Soror Erica N. James passed away in 2003 after courageously battling multiple sclerosis (MS). In her memory, the Alpha Mu Chapter seeks to award the Erica N. James Scholarship to a deserving female student who will continue her studies at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University during the 2026-2027 academic year.
The scholarship award is $1,000, awarded in two parts; $500 per semester. Enclosed is a copy of the application. We are asking that each student submit an unofficial transcript, resume, statement of purpose, a wallet-size photograph, and an essay that answers one of the essay prompts as a part of the application package. Additionally, we are asking that each applicant submit two letters of recommendation; one from a school official and one from a community representative. A copy of the applicant's resume is also strongly encouraged.The completed application package should be submitted by March 15th, 2026 at 11:45pm via JotForm. Emailed or physical applications WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
To be considered for the scholarship, an individual must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a female-identifying student
- Must be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior
- Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Must have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credit hours
The application must include the following for processing:
- Statement of purpose (200-350 words), which may include but is not limited to the following:
Financial need, goals, character traits, academic circumstances, unforeseen circumstances, etc.
