Merchants Way, Nine Elms: Expression of Interest Form

VINCI St Modwen [VSM] has installed a new temporary artwork at the heart of Nine Elms.

Designed by artist Anna Nicolò, the artwork Buyer’s Walk is a 150 metres long footway connecting the new Nine Elms Tube Station on Wandsworth Road to Ponton Road and the River Thames beyond.

What was a functional path has been reimagined as a colourful, joyous new place of intersection and animation; one which will host and promote a range of pop-up activity in the day or evening, seven days per week for a period of approximately 3 years.

In 3 locations across the length of the path, beautiful ‘Victorian door panels’ (see image above) open to reveal purpose-built, covered alcoves which are approximately 4.5m [l] x 2m [d] x 2.4m [h] with an electrical outlet.

We see these alcoves as spaces to test new ideas, speak directly to consumers, providing much-needed space to local community groups as well as a place to support business, charities and provide (and deliver) seasonal activities.

An invitation to collaborate

Expressions of Interest are now being sought from groups, individuals, businesses, charities, resident associations or anyone with a good idea!

Tell us when and how you would like to use one or more of these alcoves in 2022 by filling in the form below and you could be offered the opportunity of being included in the forthcoming calendar of activity.

Please summarise how you propose to use the alcove. If more than one, please outline how each alcove would be used as part of your proposal.

Thinking about your proposal, is it time specific (seasonal such as Christmas or date specific such as Valentine’s Day). Tell us more about how long you need the space, how you propose to animate it including hours of operation, opening times etc. The more detailed your information the more we can understand your vision and help support your application.

Technical specification/details:

Each covered alcove has access to an electrical outlet.
The alcoves are approximately 4.5m [l] x 2m [d] x 2.4m [h].
The alcoves have a key lock system but we recommend that items (of value) not be left overnight.
There is no charge for basic use of the alcove.
In lieu of payment (and if you are able), we request a small donation to a local charity.
