Video: Save Money & Take on Climate Change with An Energy Assessment
Buildings are a major source of carbon emissions, and also a place where small improvements can help reduce monthly utility bills while increasing comfort and the value of the property. The City of Milwaukee's new video encourages everyone to get an energy assessment of their home!
Check out the City of Milwaukee's new video on the importance of energy assessments, featuring Green Homeowners United!
Energy Assessments:
Thanks to new federal policy changes, getting an energy assessment of your building is even better for savings, rebates, tax credits and access to special fair green financing options to help pay for building upgrades! And with natural gas prices expected to increase, learn how you can reduce heating bills this winter.
Would you like to find out how to get an energy assessment of your home?
*
Yes, for a single family home
Yes, for a rental unit of 2-4 units
I'd like to learn if my commercial space, apartment complex, church or school could get an assessment too
I would like to talk to someone before signing up here
(Optional) Is there something specific you are most concerned about/interested in in your building?
Nothing specific, just general energy-savings opportunities
Insulation levels
How drafty the home is (air leaks)
HVAC system (furnace/ boiler/ air conditioner/ heat pump/ etc.)
Solar panel feasibility
Water heater
Windows
The quality of the air in my home that affect how I live, work and sleep
The presence of lead in my home's paint or water
Other
Lead Paint
If you would like to determine if the paint in your home is lead based, and want to explore identifying where lead paint hazards are, or how to get a "Lead Safe" home designation with the state, we recommend choosing the "I'd like to hear about other optional health/safety add-ons" option below to learn more about lead paint options
Air Leaks
If you're concerned about air leaks that can impact your comfort and energy bills, we recommend choosing the "Advanced Energy Assessment" below. We use a "Blower Door" which, as shown below, uses a large fan to depressurize the home to identify how leaky it is and identify where to best seal the leaks. Air leaks are often one of the biggest causes of heat loss, and insulation is generally not air tight.
Which type of Energy Assessment would you like to sign up for?

Did you know in some cases assessments can unlock rebates that cover the cost? And that you can roll in the cost of assessments into a "green mortgage"?
Ways to help pay for building improvements: which would you like us to let you know more about?
Available Wisconsin rebates/grants available to me now for specific improvements
Payment plan details that can spread the cost of improvements out 12-months at no interest
"Green mortgages", if my home's mortgage can integrate the cost of energy improvements at one of the lowest rates possible and reduce my home's interest rate.
To help us determine the calculations of the benefit of a "green mortgage", please provide us a little more about your current mortgage
Year you received the mortgage, or the year of the most recent refinance
Current interest rate on mortgage (estimate is fine)
Term of current mortgage (i.e. 30 years, 20 years, etc)
Amount of mortgage when first acquired (or most recent refinance), NOT current amount remaining. Estimate is fine
