  • Teaching Narrative Instructions:

    1. List and discuss your classes for the year (Spring/Summer/Fall) as appropriate.
      1. Mention any new innovations or assignments
      2. Noteworthy speakers or issues (perhaps a student award?)
      3. Reflect on areas of success and/or improvement areas. As part of that reflection, what changes (if any) would you make to improve achievement of objectives in your courses?
    2. Discuss any guest lecturers that you conducted or engagement with other classes/students
    3. Discuss any graduate advising or student committees on which you served (unless a service requirement), UCARE or honors committees.
    4. Course release information: If you received a course release for student instruction or organization (Experience Lab, Buoy), discuss it here. Classes in which you help instruct a student organization (e.g., Bateman or NSAC), please note in both teaching and service. If you receive a course release to conduct research, mention here ONLY if you have no research apportionment. Any other course releases should be mentioned here.
    5. If you received a teaching-related grant (e.g., Center for Transformative Teaching), it goes here.
    6. Curriculum development: Discuss here if you have created a new course, new major/minor/certificate program. If this is completed as part of a college committee, it should be under service. Changes to existing courses should be listed under teaching in #1 above.
    7. List any teaching-related professional development you have completed during the year (such as FIEs on teaching, instructional-software workshops, etc).
    8. If you have any DEI-related activities connected to teaching, be sure to highlight them here.
    9. Finally, reflect on your teaching goals for the year (from the previous year) and propose goals for the next year. What impact did your activities have on your instruction overall?
  • Research/Creative Activity Narrative Instructions:

    1. If you have no research apportionment, please leave this area blank. If you wish to list a research-related activity here, you may. However, you should also list it in teaching or service to ensure it is counted as part of your overall apportionment.
    2. Please list any academic work (books, journal articles, trade publications, creative work), including conferences, presentations or publications. If you can, offer impact of those works (impact factor, top paper, awards, juried feedback, etc.)
    3. Report any non-teaching grants or sponsored activity, including submissions and/or awards, whether they were funded or not. These include external and internal UNL grants, along with foundations or other funding types. These could include CoJMC seed funding, but not travel grants provided by CoJMC.
      1. For grants under submission, but not decided, provide an estimated decision date.
      2. For grants which were funded, provide potential outcomes, along with potential outcome dates.
    4. Discuss research/creative work in progress, along with an anticipated completion date.
    5. List any research-related professional development you have completed during the year (such as FIEs on research program workshops or grant-writing seminars, etc).
    6. If you have any DEI-related activities connected to research or creative activity, be sure to highlight them here.
    7. Finally, reflect on your research/creative activity goals for the year (from the previous year) and propose goals for the next year. What impact did your activities have on your research/creative activity overall?
  • Service/Outreach Narrative Instructions:

    1. List and discuss any university or college committees (non-instructional) on which you serve.
    2. List and discuss any professional organizations on which you belong, highlighting any leadership roles and what that includes.
    3. Provide any information on scholastic journal or editorial board duties here.
    4. Outline any recruiting activities or workshops you have participated in for CoJMC or UNL.
    5. Briefly describe any community-based public service or community organization to which you belong (Boys & Girls Club).
    6. List any professional development you have completed during the year that did not fit in either of the two sections above (e.g., leadership training).
    7. If you have any DEI-related activities connected to service/outreach, be sure to highlight them here.

  • Inclusive Excellence Activities

    1. Please use this space to discuss any events or activities in which you were involved that connect to diversity, equity, inclusion or belonging. These activities should already be listed in the sections above. While not required for your overall job review for the year, including the information here as well as above allow us to pull materials for reports and awards while allowing you to more thoroughly discuss how these activities connect to inclusive excellence.
