Many independent publications offer advertising. Most don't talk one bit about reach. How many people your ad will reach.
There's a good reason they don't discuss this. It's because there isn't much reach.
With traditional newsstand publications, you know the ones on a rack, with a barcode on them, there is a way for third parties to monitor sales. Those barcodes tell the story. And in the old days, you may recall those roaming bands of college students selling magazine subscriptions at impossibly low rates. Well, those were part of a bigger picture for publishers to show prospective advertisers big circulation numbers. So they could justify the ad costs. Which largely paid for the production of magazines. Before the internet changed all that. Before social media disrupted all that.
So we are going to be frank about this.
Each issue of our publications reaches a relatively small number of people. An ad in one of our issues will only be seen by a few hundred people. It's sad but it is true. Something "publications" don't like to brag about. If there's no barcode on the cover you aren't talking significant impressions. It's that low we never really aggressively offered advertising.
Why we are now is because more than just the print ad on our pages, our rates are based on us also sharing your ad, and links to your business on our 2 MILLION plus fanbase on social media. And here again, we're going to be frank, that number is only so important as most of those fans are on Facebook. Nearly 2 Million there and currently 140,000 on Instagram. The big thing about that is a few years back, Facebook changed how content reached people. In a move to sell "boosts" of their own, they throttled down the reach of non-paid promotions. So the number of people who might see your ad on our 2 Million strong FB page is very likely less than what will see it on our 140,000 follower Instagram feed.
We are currently running test posts to gather data on the reach of such IG posts but our current information points to an average "impression" of about 2,200. That the posts carry links to your business is a big part of the value there.
Stay tuned, we will be adding data and info to this page.
Also please note, pricing is introductory. As we secure new advertisers we aren't just going to add more pages of them in our issues. This is because another aspect of social media is that when you make more posts, especially those that might be flagged as "ads", the social media giants throttle back your reach.
The more ads we post, the less effective they become.
We're working to find the right balance.
