In Pennsylvania, the minimum age to serve and sell alcohol is 18 years old.
Serving Alcohol: Individuals 18 years of age and older are permitted to serve alcohol in licensed establishments.
Selling Alcohol: Similarly, the minimum age to sell packaged liquor and malt or brewed beverages is 18 years old.
Handling Alcohol: However, there's a distinction for those under 18. Individuals under 18 cannot be employed to handle or serve alcoholic beverages. They can perform other duties like serving food and clearing tables but are restricted from dispensing or serving alcohol.
Purchasing and Consuming: It is crucial to remember that the minimum legal drinking age in Pennsylvania is 21 years old. It is illegal for anyone under 21 to purchase, possess, or consume alcohol, even if provided by family members (with a very limited exception for religious ceremonies involving wine).
An individual as young as 18 can work in a position that involves serving or selling alcohol; they cannot legally purchase or consume it themselves until they reach 21.
