Dear Music Teacher or Band Director,
We are happy to announce that student recommendations are now being accepted for the Student Participation Program of the Metropolitan Atlanta Community Band (MACB). This concert band of approximately 70 musicians is led by four renowned Atlanta-area music educators. Mr. Curtis Byrdsong (principal associate director); Mr. Allen Ward, Jr. (associate director); Mr. Vanable H. Moody, Sr. (associate director); and Dr. Alfred D. Wyatt, Sr. MACB's founding director. MACB, a community band is a family-oriented group of amateur and professional musicians from all walks of life and occupations.
When pandemic conditions permit, rehearsals will be held in the Douglass High School band room Tuesdays from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm. You can find more information about MACB at https://MACBonline.org.
Even though MACB was created for adult musicians, the band feels strongly about helping the next generation thrive. Therefore, a limited number of students are allowed to rehearse and perform with the band. These students gain knowledge from accomplished musicians and valuable experience from public performances with adults. Each student will have a band mentor to guide him or her.
Since its inception in October 1996, MACB has presented a band scholarship award to a Student Participation Program senior who 1) has been accepted by an institution of higher learning and 2) has participated in the program for at least two years. These awards are based on the availability of funds during the current performance year.
Provided below is a form on which you may input students you feel would benefit from this experience. We prefer recommendations of juniors or seniors only, due to their increased level of maturity. If we think one of your recommendations is a good fit for MACB, we will contact you for more information.
If you have any questions, please email us at info@MACBonline.org. Thank you for any recommendations you may have.
