  • Residency Requirement Policy - Students entering as Freshmen

    The University of Evansville guarantees residential housing for students during their first three years.   

    Students entering as freshmen (includes transfer freshmen entering UE after one semester at another institution) must reside in either University Housing or University Approved Housing for a minimum of three academic years or the equivalent of six fall/spring semesters.   

    Note - Credit hours from bridge, early college, dual credit, or advanced placement do not qualify for calculating the number of semesters required.

    Entering freshmen may request an exemption if they meet one of the following criteria:

    • Student's local residence is with a parent or legal guardians and is located within a 35-mile radius from UE.
    • Student has attained the age of 22 prior to the start of the semester.
    • Student is married and/or must live with a dependent.

    The Residency Exemption form must be submitted to Residence Life for review prior to the start of the term.

    Students who have not met the residency requirement or who do not have an approved exemption will be billed the equivalent of the Moore Hall double-occupancy room rate and assigned and billed for the Aces 12 meal plan.


  • Residency Requirement Policy - International Students

    The University of Evansville requires students entering as freshmen or freshmen transfers to reside on campus for a minimum of three academic years or the equivalent of six full term semesters. 

    International students who meet one of the following criterion may request an exemption from the Residency Requirement:

    • The student's local residence is with parents or legal guardians and is located within a 35-mile radius from UE.  
      • For international students, consideration is expanded to close relatives such as grandparents, uncles or aunts who are siblings of the parent, or brothers or sisters who are 21 years of age or older. Proof of family relationship may be requested such as birth certificates showing family relationship. We would want to see both the student's parent and the uncle/aunt's birth certificates to see that they shared a parent. Please note that the University of Evansville does not consider cousins or close friends of the family as an approved substitute for the parent.
      • Legal guardians are individuals who have attained legal guardianship within the United States for a person under the age of 18. Proof of legal guardianship may be requested such as court records and certificates.
      • Local residency must be verified showing an established residence in the local area.
      • Parents, close relatives, or legal guardians who are not U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents must provide evidence that they are granted temporary residence in the United States for the academic year.  Examples of such evidence are H1B visas, TN visas, L1 visas. Please note that the University of Evansville does not consider students to be permanently residing off-campus with parents, close relatives, or legal guardians on tourist or business B1/B2 visas.
    • The student has attained the age of 22 prior to the start of the academic year.
    • The student is married and/or must live with a dependent.
    • The student is participating in a government sponsored program that has an exemption agreement with the University of Evansville.

    The Residency Exemption form must be submitted to Residence Life for review prior to the start of the term.

    Students who have not met the residency requirement or who do not have an approved exemption will be billed the equilvalent of the Moore Hall double-occupancy room rate and assigned and billed for the Aces 12 meal plan.

  • Residency Requirement Policy - Transfer Students

    The University of Evansville guarantees residential housing for students during their first three years.

    Transfer students with less than 90 academic credit hours earned at previous institutions (excluding bridge, early-college, dual-credit, and advanced placement credit) are required to live on campus or in university-approved housing. Transfer students who have achieved 90 academic credit hours prior to the start of the academic year are exempt from the Residency Requirement.

    Entering transfer students may request an exemption if they meet one of the following criteria:

    • Student's local residence is with a parent or legal guardian and is located within a 35-mile radius from UE.
    • Student has attained the age of 22 prior to the start of the semester.
    • Student is married and/or must live with a dependent

    The Residency Exemption form must be submitted to Residence Life for review prior to the start of the term.

    Students who have not met the residency requirement or who do not have an approved exemption will be billed the equilvalent of the Moore Hall double-occupancy room rate and assigned and billed for the Aces 12 meal plan.  


  • Statement Affirming Local Residency

    Students who reside within a 35-mile radius from UE may commute from home.  If an international student, please see the International Student Residency Requirement Policy for expanded definitions and requirements.

    • I affirm that I will be living locally with a parent/guardian during the academic year.
    • I understand that should I alter this decison at any time during the orginal contract period, I am required to notify the Office of Student Financial Services the Office of Residence Life.
    • I further understand that providing false information for the purpose of attaining commuter status may result in financial aid penalty and disciplinary action according to the Student Handbook.
  • You indicated that you are requesting to live locally at home, within a 35-mile radius from UE.  A parent / guardian needs to sign this form before you submit.  If a parent / guardian is not with you right now, you can click the Save button and a link will be emailed to you to return later when you are with your parent / guardian.  

  • Parent / Guardian Verification -

    I verify that my student will be living in my home with me at least five (5) days per week at your local primary residence during the academic year.  If my student intends to move away from my home, I understand that they must obtain prior approval from the Office of Residence Life or move into campus housing.  

  • Once you submit this form, it will be emailed to the Office of Residence Life.  Our staff will review your request and a decision will be emailed to you within 2 weeks.
