Governmental Affairs Committee (via Zoom)
Purpose: In order to ensure the economic stability of South San Luis Obispo County, the Chamber recognizes the necessity of properly balanced legislation and policies that encourage business attraction and growth. The Chamber supports a proactive approach to local legislation including research, analysis, education, and wide dissemination of proposed legislation that affects local businesses. Participation in the Governmental Affairs Committee is a great way to expand your knowledge on local issues that affect business and the economy. The committee is a place to become informed and share that information with the Chamber membership at large. The Governmental Affairs Committee will be a conduit of information via the monthly newsletter, social media, podcasts, and informational forums. On occasion, the Governmental Affairs Committee will make recommendations to the SCCC Board of Directors to take a position on policies, measures, propositions, and bills pertaining to business, jobs, and the economy.
What to Expect: The Governmental Affairs Committee will hear from experts on a variety of topics affecting business. For example, the committee will hear from speakers on upcoming ballot measures. In addition to these relevant topics, the committee also receives updates from the South County City Managers and representatives from the SLO County Board of Supervisors, state, and federal offices.
Commitment Level: Attend monthly meetings and engage in discussions. You may be asked to assist with the State of the South County, Candidate Forums, and Meet the Candidate events.
