Student Government positions are elected by their peers. Through the student government councils, student activities are planned including social gatherings and service opportunities. Students may also bring concerns or requests pertaining to school life to the faculty and administration through the student councils. Student Council is an opportunity to do work for the Lord that builds up the community He has created and brought to FCS.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Student Government at FCS is to assist in fostering a positive Christ-honoring tone within the student body using the Biblical model of “love the Lord your God with all your heart,” and “love your neighbor as yourself,” to develop a student community of God first, others second, self third.
Purpose Statement
The Student Government at FCS exists:
- To provide an opportunity for student leadership abilities to be identified, developed, and utilized.
- For students to participate in the democratic process and to understand each individual’s privilege and responsibility.
- To provide an organized vehicle for the student body to influence and help shape the FCS community.
- To provide an accountable group of student leaders for the purpose of facilitating student activities, social events, and outreach opportunities.
General Responsibilities:
- Officers meet with the Administration the last Tuesday of every month, during the last 45 minutes of the school day.
- Class Representatives join that meeting once per month.
- Plan and execute social activities and events for students at FCS (Pre-K, elementary & upper grades).
- Regular and effective communication to the student body regarding Student Government business and activities.
Positions:
- President (can be filled by students in grades 6-12)
- Vice President (can be filled by students in grades 6-12)
- Activities Coordinator (can be filled by students in grades 6-12)
- Outreach Director/Chaplain (can be filled by students in grades 6-12)
- Secretary/Treasurer (can be filled by students in grades 6-12)
- Publicity Director (can be filled by students in grades 6-12)
- Class Representatives (one per class, grades 1-5)
Detailed Responsibilities:
President Responsibilities:
- Represent the student body at school events and other meetings.
- Supervise the functioning of the elected student body officers.
- Develop the agenda for and preside over the meetings of the Student Council.
- Make sure all ideas and material are Christ-led & centered.
- Keep the Student Council on track, leading by example.
- Make sure specific completion dates are set and dates & goals are being met.
Vice President Responsibilities:
- Represent the student body at school events and other meetings, as led by the President & Student Council.
- Coordinate the work of committees.
- Preside over Student Council meetings in the absence of the President
- Work as a team, with the President & Student Council, allowing the Lord to speak through ideas and conversations.
Activities Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Represent the student body at school events and other meetings, as led by the President & Student Council.
- Help coordinate the work of school activities (events, fundraisers, movie nights, pep rallies, etc.).
- Create a specific plan, with dates and plans for completion (not just an end date, but progress dates, as well).
- Help delegate tasks and keep track of who is responsible for what and check in on progress.
- Make sure all ideas, materials and activities are Christ-led and centered.
Outreach Director/Chaplain Responsibilities:
- Represent the student body at school events and other meetings, as led by the President & Student Council.
- Help coordinate the work of school outreach & prayer (events at and away from school, such as donation drives for the community, national day of prayer, etc.).
- Create a specific plan, with dates and plans for completion (not just an end date, but progress dates, as well).
- Help delegate tasks and keep track of who is responsible for what and check in on progress.
- Make sure all ideas, materials and activities are Christ-led and centered.
Secretary & Treasurer Responsibilities:
- Represent the student body at school events and other meetings, as led by the President & Student Council.
- Take detailed notes of every Student Council Meeting and make sure this is shared with the administration after each meeting (give a copy to the administrators).
- Make sure Student Council information discussed at meetings is given to all teachers, so that they can discuss updates and ideas with all of the students at FCS.
- Create polls/surveys to give to the teachers for their classes to take regarding different ideas, to find out if the student body is in favor of the idea or not.
- Keep a detailed ledger of all expenses and fundraiser profits.
Publicity Director Responsibilities:
- Represent the student body at school events and other meetings, as led by the President & Student Council.
- Make live announcements, over the school P.A. system, once per week, regarding upcoming school events or activities.
- Help facilitate and make school signs, advertising upcoming school events.
- Share information about school events by going to classrooms and sharing information with each class (pre-scheduled with the teachers).
- Find ways to be creative and get people’s attention (make sure it is Christ-led and centered), regarding upcoming activities/events. Get them excited about meeting school wide goals, etc.
Class Representatives Responsibilities:
- Attend Student Council meetings once per month.
- Take detailed notes at each meeting and report back to your class.
- Bring ideas and/or questions from your class to the Student Council meetings.
- Make sure all ideas are Christ-led and centered.
