On July 9, 2020, Jacob’s Mission Community Center filed to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization. Due to the pandemic, we were not recognized as a public charity until September 20, 2021. In 2020 Jacob's Mission served 312 children and 197 families. As of December 13, 2021, we have served 617 children and 380 families. Give the Gift of Hope by helping us serve even more children in 2022.
Our Vision: After School programs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and give working parents peace of mind. They help children learn, grow, and reach their full potential, offering new learning opportunities that help students do better in school and in life. Children in afterschool programs attend school more often, get better grades, and are more likely to graduate. They are less likely to use drugs or alcohol.
Our Mission is to provide free out-of-school programs to help improve high school achievement and workforce placement to children and youth impacted by foster care through tutoring, trade skills classes, transition to adulthood programs, mentorship, and extracurricular activities.
Jacob's Mission Community Center is a free out-of-school time trauma-focused program in Mesa, AZ serving school aged children who have experienced ruptured attachments due to the separation from their family of origin and circumstances associated with that loss, and other at-risk populations. Tutoring services are rendered for children who have fallen behind educationally. Extracurricular activities are provided to offer healing and joy. Life skills and mentors are provided for youth close to aging out.
Our programs encompass a broad range of focus areas including academic support, mentoring, arts, dance, yoga, cooking, basketball, piano, guitar, sewing, health, positive youth development, educational, housing and workforce development programs for youth ages 14-19.
Many of the children and teens we serve lack access to healthy, affordable food at the end of their school day. Jacob’s Mission Community Center ensures that children, youth and their household members have access to nutritious meals.
Our objective is to educate, mentor, and assist at-risk youth and their families. Our Transition to Adulthood Program helps youth graduate high school, assists them in furthering their education through secondary education or vocational training, supports them in developing critical life skills, and will continue to offer them food, basic necessities and clothing as needed.
Programs offered at Jacob’s Mission Community Center focus on improving high school achievement and workforce placement in at-risk youth through tutoring, trade skills classes, transition to adult programs, mentorship, and extracurricular activities. The services we provide assist teens in developing the skills and competencies necessary for a successful transition to adulthood. Additional services offered include computer skills classes, money management and job placement classes, cooking, nutrition, physical activity, art, music and gardening lessons.
Our Transition to Adulthood Program, entitled “Life Starts Now,” includes training and assistance in applying for jobs, college and financial aid, the Education and Training Voucher (ETV) program, enrollment in educational or vocational job training programs, as well as assistance with obtaining an independent residence. The program also provides assistance with enrollment in the Young Adult Transitional Insurance program, which extends health care to foster youth until their 26th birthday.
The services we provide to children, youth, and families impacted by foster care are made possible through the talents and time provided by our angel volunteers and by donors who truly care about making an impact in the lives of our most vulnerable population.
