As many of you may know from your own personal experience, the JCC Early Childhood Center has provided outstanding childcare to the community for the past 33 years. We look forward to continuing to provide these services for many years to come.
We pride ourselves on everlasting, continuing relationships with our families servicing generations. Many of our previous parents are now our current grandparents and a significant amount of our precious past students are now our current parent body. This connection to our families has always been the highlight of our program.
Barbara Harrison, one of the pillars of our Early Childhood Center, has always valued herself on these relationships and cherished the connection we have with our families. As some of you may have heard, as we were preparing to open up school in the midst of the pandemic, Barbara suddenly suffered a stroke which left her unable to return to the school that she helped build and nurture for 26 years. Anyone who had the privilege to know Barbara knows how dedicated, caring and completely focused she was on the ever changing needs of the JCC Early Childhood students.
Barbara’s rehabilitation progress and a big piece of her overall recovery has been her connection to and hard work with her speech, physical and occupational therapists. Seeing how far Barbara has progressed due to these services and knowing the importance of these services on many different levels, we have decided to embark on an exciting project in honor of Barbara that will benefit our JCC students and the greater community as well.
We are building a state of the art Sensory/Therapy gym. A sensory gym is an area for therapists to work with children receiving therapy services and providing them sensory input as well. A sensory gym can have a therapeutic impact on almost anyone, which makes access to it beneficial to all of our children. JCC children receiving therapy will gain tremendous benefit from working on their goals with skilled therapists in our cutting edge sensory gym and therapy center. Our vision is to also allow our in house therapists to include children from outside the JCC nursery, thereby broadening the scope of our reach and benefits as well.
We have consulted with local experts in our quest to develop a top of the line sensory gym that will no doubt enhance the already outstanding JCC Early Childhood experience.
In the Early Childhood Center, we take great satisfaction in rarely utilizing donation campaigns but this cause was so important and dear to our hearts that we are asking our JCC family to help spearhead this project in honor of Barbara. Your support is crucial to our success and very much appreciated.
A JCC Tree of Support will be incorporated into the design of the sensory gym with donor names proudly displayed on each leaf. There will be an opportunity to send Barbara a personal message that will be included in our dedication to her.
