About the EAS Student Research Grant Program
EAS awards funding for student research each semester under a program that began in Fall 2021. In this round, all students conducting research (Ph.D., M.S. with thesis, and B.S./B.A. with thesis) are eligible to apply. Students may receive one award from this program per degree in EAS. (*See below for exceptions.) The award pool is $5,000 per semester with a maximum amount of $2,500 for a single award. Funds will be awarded directly to students and can be used for laboratory analyses, fieldwork, or research supplies. Funds are not to be used for travel to conferences or general living expenses.
Publication costs are an acceptable use of funds. If requesting publication charges, including page charges, open access fees, etc., students should have already submitted the manuscript for review. In place of a research proposal, applicants seeking publication fees must submit the title of the manuscript, full author list, the abstract, the name of the journal, an estimate of the total charges, the amount requested from this program, and a brief explanation of why the journal and access options have been selected.
*A student who previously received research funding in this program for less than the maximum amount of $2,500, may apply for another grant for publication costs. The total funds given under the two awards combined may not exceed $2,500.
All funds must be used as indicated in the proposal. Funds that remain unused 12 months after receipt should be returned.
Deadline
The Application Deadline is Monday, January 27th, at 4:00 pm. Applications will be reviewed by the EAS Scholarship and Awards Committee, which currently includes Drs. Capuano, Hauptvogel, Jiang, Khan, and Wellner. Awards will be made in mid-February and funds should be spent within one year of receiving them.
