The safety and grooming experience for your pet is our top priority. We are pet first aid certified and operate in a fear free environment for pet's and their groomers. Every effort will be taken to make sure your pet has the best experience possible. We know grooming can be stressful for some pets, we work one on one through the entire process to ensure they are comfortable from beginning to end.
Please ensure your dog has been able to access a bathroom break before their appointment time.
You will recieve a text message or phone call 20-30 minutes before your dog is ready for pickup. If you havent recieved a message that your dog will be ready at certain time, they are not ready for pickup yet.
We have parking located in the back of our building, to access it you can use our laneway to the left of our building (it is a bit narrow) or you can use the laneway one over to the left around the black building, it loops to our lot in the back.
Please use our backdoor entrance located in our parking lot for all appointments and walk-ins.
We are currently open Tuesday through Sunday. We offer walk-in nail trims Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-2pm.
Consent Waiver Sometimes grooming can expose a hidden medical problem or aggravate a current one. If your pet is matted or aggressive there is a greater risk of injury and stress. Problems happen occasionally during or after grooming such as nicks, clipper irritation and mental stress. These are most notable in senior dogs, dogs with impairments, agressive behaviour, extreme matting and clipping double coated breeds. Signing this form indicates you are aware of the risks and understand accidents can happen when working with live animals.
Booking Appointments is best through the shop landline at 613-421-7277. If we can't answer the phone right away please leave a message with your full name, breed of dog and phone number. We will return messages as soons as possible. We highly encourage pre booking your grooming appointment after pickup. Groomer’s are booked out 4-6 weeks at minimum. We are only servicing clients that are on a consistent schedule of 4, 6, 8 and 12 weeks depending on the breed of dog. We are currently only servicing doodles that are on a 8 week or less schedule. If you need to cancel your appointment we require 48 hours notice to avoid a fee. Please ensure you receive a confirmation from your groomer that the appointment is cancelled. Appointment times are incredibly valuable to both groomers and their clientele, 48 hours notice ensures there is adequate time to find a replacement for the time slot. Extenuating circumstances will be pardoned. If you need to cancel and reschedule your appointment please note we book a minimum of 4-6 weeks in advance and there is not a lot of wiggle room to reschedule to a day before or a day after. We would have to reschedule to the next availability which could mean a 2-6 week wait.
No show to an appointment with no notice will generate a fee of 100% of the groom price and there will be a non-refundable deposit required if you want to rebook the appointment. Consistently late check-ins of 10 minutes will result in a late fee being added after the third occurrence. More than 10 minutes late could result in rescheduling and a fee priced at the groomers discretion to rebook. Extenuating circumstances will be pardoned. We rely on clients to be punctual as we are one on one groomers, we want to ensure quality and never want to be rushed through a groom.
We do not guarantee reminders for booked appointments. Please make sure your date and time is recorded.
In order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment we require all pets to be up to date on their rabies and parvovirus vaccinations. We ask that you wait at least 48 hours after any vaccination before checking in. Proof of rabies vaccination at check in for first appointments is required. We highly recommend your pet be vaccinated against Bordetella, this vaccine is optional, however we cannot be held liable for exposure to unvaccinated animals.
Pet temperament is very important for a successful relationship between groomer and dog. Groomer’s have the right to refuse to groom a dog based on compatibility and temperament. If a dog exhibits dangerous behaviour to itself or the groomer the service will be stopped. If the dog exhibits high anxiety that poses a risk to their health or becomes a hazard the service will be stopped. Temperament will always be discussed between the client and the groomer to ensure transparency and to allow for a plan to be formulated for future appointments.
Groomer's mental health & body health For a successful relationship in grooming, it is impairative the groomer is comfortable both physically and mentally. Grooming is a very physically demanding job and we often have on going side effects from grooming such as carpal tunnel, joint issues, neck and back pain which can all be unfortunately stressed by behavioural issues in dogs. Just as some dogs suffer from anxiety groomers also deal with mental health issues. Not all groomers are a good match for all dogs depending on these issues. Please be respectful of the groomers choices. If we are not a good match we will recommend another grooming salon.
Pricing varies according to service, type of haircut, type of coat, behaviour, age, weight/size and condition of the coat. Prices are listed on our website under Services & Prices. They are broken down by type of service and size. Prices are subject to change according to the groomer’s discretion. All prices are a starting point based on circumstance. The best way to get an exact quote is through an in person consultation. Additional fees will incur with de-matting, impacted coats and pelted coats. De-matting a coat will depend on the overall condition. We will only de-mat areas that are safe and humane. Puppy's will have a sliding scale price as they grow.
Matting refers to dogs that have excessive tangles, clumping and knots of hair and coat. It is commonly found on ears, armpits and tails but is not limited to those areas. Every area of the dog has the potential to have matting. De-matting can be a very uncomfortable and potentially painful experience for the animal. We recommend that if the mats are too tight to the skin and cannot be brushed out, shaving is the only safe and humane option. Extreme matting cuts circulation off to the skin. When the mat is released and the skin is able to breathe again there is a risk that the skin could form a bruise or hematoma. There is a higher risk of nicks and cuts because skin is potentially pulled too tight by the mat. Other skin irritations can occur under shaving mats, revealing sores, scabs and dry skin. This process is extremely delicate and requires immense skill.
Coat pelt refers to an animal that is entirely encased in matting. The animal will require shaving underneath the matting to relieve the coat humanely. This requires the coat to be shaved pre-bath which puts groomer's blades and clippers through a dirty coat. Dirty coats put more strain on tools and can easily ruin blades quickly. This process requires a lot of knowledge in dog anatomy and the ability to safely remove the pelting.
Impacted coats are found in double coated breeds that have heavy seasonal molting. It is the soft and dense fur that peeks through the longer guard hairs of the top coat. When the coat is not brushed regularly it becomes impacted and matted which prevents air from being able to move between the dog's topcoat and their skin. Heavy impaction requires double or even triple the amount of work and skill to get the coat healthy and functioning again.
The health and welfare of your pet is our first concern and we will always choose humanity over vanity.
Dogs In Heat · We do not groom dog's in heat as it can be stressful and uncomfortable for them. Dog's can be more irritable and the grooming process is generally more difficult. Other dog's in the salon can also react to the scent of the hormones. We recommend waiting a minimum of two weeks after any discharge before grooming.
Pregnant Dog's · We do not groom pregnant dog's. Grooming is stressful and could cause a risk of miscarriage.
Show Dog's · If you have a dog being shown for points we can only offer a bath and brush service. Any trimming or clipping we recommend referring to the breeder and/or handler.
Show Clips · We do not offer show clips. We can modify show clips to suit a pet style, but if the dog has the potential to be shown we recommend having the grooming needs assessed by the breeder and/or handler.
Touch Ups · If you find there needs to be an adjustment to the groom, we are happy to do any touch ups. We allow 48 hours after the groom takes place for complimentary adjustments. If it has been over 48 hours there will be a touch up fee priced according to how much adjustment is made.
Non-Owner Drop Off · If you are having someone else drop off your dog for grooming please make sure you allocate time for a phone call so we can discuss what type of service/haircut. We often have a series of questions especially for new clients to make sure we are producing the best service.
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions · If your dog has any medical conditions please make sure the groomer is fully aware of the extent. We have a medical waiver that is required to be signed with any dog that has pre-existing medical conditions.
Ear Plucking · We only pluck ears when asked to do so. We will only pluck for maintenance, if your dog has excessive build up or deep condensed hair, we recommend having your vet alleviate the build up and we can continue to maintain.
Extremely Matted Ears · Ears can often get mat's tight enough that it cuts off blood circulation. Once this occurs, it is a very delicate process to relieve the ears of the matting. Often hematomas will occur even with as much precaution as possible. If the ears are too tight we will recommend seeking out a vet to shave the matting.
Anal Glands · We do not offer excretion of anal glands, our insurance does not cover it and we recommend seeing your vet for proper maintenance and care.
Sedation · If for any reason you give your dog medication for anxiety and it inhibits their behaviour in any way please let us know at the time of booking.
FAQ
How long will my appointment take? This depends on a number of factors including the type of service, the coat condition and behaviour of the dog and the groomers themselves. We always try to give you the best possible estimate at the time of check in. We take into account the dog’s age; for example, a senior dog might need a few more breaks than normal, or puppies may need breaks because they are overstimulated. If your dog is anxious, we slow things down and go at the pace of his or her needs. The haircut also plays a factor. If you are getting your dog hand-scissored, it requires a lot more prep and skilled work. If your dog is matted and/or pelted, this too requires significantly more time so the job is done carefully and safely. If your double coated breed has an impacted coat, a large chunk of time is needed to properly sort through it humanely. Each groomer also grooms at their own pace. We do not rush ourselves as we take pride in providing a positive experience for your pet. We will always give you a 15-20 minute (shorter or longer if required) ‘heads up’ before Fluffy is ready.
How often should I get my dog groomed? This depends on breed, home maintenance and the length of clip from the last time groomed. Shedding breeds like huskies, Shepherds and Labs really only need to be professionally groomed 4 times a year at every season change, unless you’d like a clean dog more often! Double coated breeds such as Golden Retrievers, Shetland Sheepdogs and Samoyeds should be regularly groomed every 8 or 10 or 12 weeks to help with the accumulation of undercoat and to prevent impaction. Frequency varies more dramatically with haircut breeds like Poodles, Portuguese Water Dogs, or Shih Tzus. A good rule of thumb is the longer the haircut, the more often they should be maintained and groomed: kept short (less than ⅜”) every 6-8 weeks, kept semi fluffy (½”-1”) every 4-6 weeks, kept long (1” and over) every 4 weeks at minimum.
Are you going to “Poodle my Doodle”? Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Bernedoodles, Shepdoodles, Sheepdoodles, Aussiedoodles, Multigenerational Doodles or F1 Doodles, all kinds of “oodles” can have any type of haircut you want them to have. There is no right or wrong way to groom a doodle. It comes down to personal preference and what works best for maintenance. All of these dogs have Poodles bred into them, some more than others. The fact is there is Poodle DNA in all of them. No matter what kind of haircut you choose, some dogs will always look somewhat like a Poodle. Our recommendation is to embrace your unique mix of breeds and find the perfect haircut that works best for Fluffy and you!
Covid-19 We are taking every precaution to keep staff and customers safe. Masks/face coverings are required to enter the building. Our check in/drop off/pickup routine will change according to the bylaws in place at the time. Sanitation and cleaning procedures have been implemented according to Health Canada regulations. We ask that if you are feeling ill or exhibit any symptoms to please let us know immediately so we can reschedule your appointment without penalty.
Groomers experiencing symptoms or feeling ill will be required to stay home and adhere to the public health regulations at the time. Appointments will be cancelled with as much notice as possible. Rescheduling will be done as soon as possible and with precedence in accordance with the day and time cancelled. Groomers will reschedule based on the next availability (this could be anywhere from 2-4 weeks). We understand this can be frustrating, patience and compassion with these extraordinary times are truly appreciated.
