An applicant to the 2022 Nalukai Academy’s Summer Startup Camp has asked that you submit this form or recommendation as part of our application process.  Nalukai Academy assembles a small cohort of students from around the state (typically, a third come from Hawai'i public schools, a third from independent schools, and a third from charter or home schools) for a free 14-day program that explores cultural, technological & social entrepreneurship, working as part of a team, digital story-telling, project management, technology, and leadership skills with an emphasis on developing businesses or non-profits here in Hawai'i.  Admission to the program is competitive (typically between 12%-20% of applicants are admitted.) Students who have taken part in Nalukai during the last five years report that it has been tremendously inspiring and provided a vibrant community of like-minded young people interested in developing their ideas and solutions to problems here in Hawai'i.   We bring in an all-star group of mentors, cultural practitioners, and instructors who have experience starting their own companies or teaching about the topics above. We are monitoring the COVID pandemic and guidelines from the state to determine whether we will convene in person or virtually (as we have the last two summers). The program is free to Hawai’i high school students (thanks to the generosity of our supporters and donors).  Participants receive a new laptop (that they get to keep) as part of the program.  Please fill out and submit the form as soon as possible but ideally by April 18, 2022.
