Participation: We love educating campers on pollinators and their very important role in our ecosystems. We do our best to put children at ease around bees and have plenty of tricks up our sleeves to help them warm up to our fuzzy buzzing friends. Most campers come to understand why our motto of “give bees a chance” is so important and are willing to join us in protective gear to explore the beehouse. However, participation in the beehouse is never mandatory and if a child ultimately decides they are not comfortable participating in this aspect of camp we will provide other fun options for learning and exploring the world of bees.
Dress Code: Clothing should be light in color (no black or floral prints). T-shirts and shorts work well, campers will wear protective bee suits when in the beehouse. Athletic shoe or sneakers is a must! Please make sure your child does not come to camp in sandals, flip-flops, rubber “crocs” style shoes, or any other open-toed shoes. Even better, if you can send a pair of rain boots or bogs, please do! They are helpful when it comes to working in the apiary and garden. Campers will not be allowed in beehouse without proper protective footwear.
Personal Belongings: Please put the child’s name on all articles of clothing, snack bags, bags, etc. Children should not bring toys, mobile phones, electronic devices, jewelry, money, or any possession of value with them to Bee Camp.
Mobile Phones: Bee Camp has a STRICT NO PHONE POLICY. If you require your child have a phone with them for emergency purposes, it must be kept in a bag and turned off during camp hours.
Sunscreen: Bee Camp is 100% outdoors! We do provide covered areas but if your child needs it, please apply sunscreen prior to the start of each camp session. Children may bring sunscreen but must be able to reapply with staff supervision. Sunscreen must be labeled with the child’s name. Children may not share these items with others.
Behavior Management/Discipline Policy: Keepers Collective will create a fun and safe environment for participants in the program. Praise and positive reinforcement are used as effective methods of behavior management. Children who do not respond to these methods or who are destructive to others or to property will be dealt with in a professional, positive, and timely manner to correct the behavior. All incidents will be discussed privately with parents/guardians NOTE: Immediate dismissal from the program can occur at any time given severe circumstances. Refunds for missed days due to a discipline dismissal will not be granted.
Apiary and Farm: Keepers Collective LLC grounds is home to a live apiary with multiple beehives, and other domesticated and wild animals. Although it is extremely rare for campers to be stung during camp it can happen. Every camper participating in hive exploration will be protected by head to foot bee suits, we cannot stress enough that proper footwear is key to a fun and stingless week at camp. No sandals please!!! Keepers Collective has two extremely friendly and loyal family dogs named Clark and Mac who help us to keep our apiary safe from Snoqualmie’s black bears, elk, racoons and other predators at night. Although campers may see Clark and Mac playing or laying in the shade, our pups will not be a part of Bee Camp. If your camper has any allergy or fear of dogs, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make appropriate accommodations.
