  • Summer Meals 2023: Application

  • Feeding Alabama’s Summer Meals Program (SMP) provides free meals to children ages 18 and under during the summer months when school is not in session. Feeding Alabama (FAL) serves as the program sponsor and partners with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, the Montgomery Area Food Bank, the Food Bank of East Alabama, the Food Bank of North Alabama, the West Alabama Food Bank, the Alabama State Department of Education, and most importantly community organizations like yours, to provide summer meals across numerous Alabama counties every summer. During 2022, our Summer Meals Program operated from June to August and served nearly 2,000 children and a total of 43,173 meals.
  • Welcome, Prospective and Returning Summer Meals Sites! Please follow the prompts below to complete:

    • New Site Application, or
    • Register your returning Site (only for sites who participated in summer 2022)

We look forward to hopefully partnering with your team to serve nutritious meals to kids in your community!

  • Please take a few moments to review the following IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

    1. All applications MUST be submitted via this form in order to be considered. We are not accepting mailed or emailed site application forms in 2023.

    2. Submitting a completed application DOES NOT guarantee a site's/organization's acceptance into the Summer Meals Program. All applicants are strongly encouraged to prepare alternative arrangements for their summer meal programming in the event their organization's application is not accepted. Acceptance to our program is based on site qualification guidelines set forth by USDA and meal vendor availability in your area.

    2. ***NOTE***: Organizations intending to serve meals at multiple locations (i.e., with different physical addresses) MUST submit SEPARATE applications for EACH INDIVIDUAL LOCATION / EACH SEPARATE ADDRESS.

    3. Site selection for Summer Meals 2023 will proceed as follows:
    a. Priority Applicant deadline: 03/20/2023
    i. Site applications submitted on or before 11:59 p.m., Monday, 03/20/2023, (henceforth, referred to as "priority deadline") will be given priority consideration.

    b. Summer Meals Partner Waitlist
    i. Applications submitted after the priority deadline will be added to the Summer Meals Partner Waitlist, and given secondary consideration in the event that one or more priority applicants withdraws their application.

ii. Applicants who submit after the priority deadline will be contacted by Food Bank staff ONLY in the event their application is accepted. Otherwise, applicants will NOT receive notice of their respective applications' status.

    c. Sites selected for partnership will be contacted with information regarding meetings and the required site training.

  • Summer Meals 2023: Application

  • In October 2018, the State of Alabama updated its Summer Food Service Program regulations. In order to participate in the Summer Food Service Program, ALL Child Daycare Centers MUST be licensed by Alabama's Department of Human Resources, INCLUDING faith-based organizations that are currently exempt from state licensing.

If your child daycare center is not currently licensed with the Alabama Department of Human Resources, you may still continue with your application. HOWEVER, barring a change in Alabama's state regulations for the Summer Food Service Program, your child daycare center's application CANNOT be accepted for participation in the ALFBA's Summer Meals Program.

To learn more about how to become a DHR-licensed child daycare center, please contact Danielle Turk at dturk@alsde.edu
