An Oral History Project Conducted by Jade R Rogers

Project Description
I believe that for Black people, play and leisure are acts of resistance and the lack of safe spaces is a social justice issue. As the leader of a blerd organization whose core tenet is to promote and build community around gaming, board games, comics, science fiction, and fantasy across mediums for BIPOC people, I am interested in how those interests are formed in childhood and adolescence and how those experiences shape our interests as adults. I want to add your voice to a collection of voices on the subject. Specifically, I am asking you to participate in an Oral History interview focused on the intersection of Blackness and play and how childhood and adolescent experiences and how that shape play and ideas of leisure as adults. This project will document those experiences, and the plan is to use these interviews as the basis for continued research and archive them for future generations at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
