You chose the 40-Hour General Healthcare Interpreter (HCI) Program. This program prepares you with the knowledge and skills to interpret in primary care and community health.

This program meets the 40-Hour Medical Interpreter Training Program required by national certification organizations (CCHI and NBCMI).

Program Outline and Description of Courses
The General HCI Program is designed to be completed in 9 weeks.

After 9 weeks, you may request an additional 3 weeks free extension to make up for the days that you were not able to log in, or had Internet problems/technical issues, etc.

So you have a total of 12 weeks access.

After 12 weeks, you need to sign up for monthly Extension (Extra Fee) which is currently $90.00 per month.
To qualify to take the General HCI Program, you must meet or exceed the program requirements.

If you do not meet the requirements, please sign up for the Culture Advantage Screening Test. $110.00. This test is for Culture Advantage to assess if you are able to speak, read, and write at a level sufficient to take the training.

Please note that to take the 40-Hour Program, you will be completing written and verbal translations in the non-English language.

Note: The program includes Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and a Final Evaluation to be completed within 12 weeks. You may request a free 4-week extension after 12 weeks.

After a total of 16 weeks, you may sign up for monthly extension which is $90.00 per month.

Language-Specific

Language-specific Translations of Major Medical Concepts

Students only submit assignments of written and verbal translations of major medical concepts. (Language-specific course, such as presentations, audios, worksheets,etc. are not incuded.) Suggested resources may be provided for major languages.

One session, which is non-language-specific session, is required with Marlene.

(Language-specific Practice/Coaching not included. You may sign up for language-specific Private Coaching Session.)

Core Competencies

Professional Medical Interpreting Concepts and Skills

Integrating what you have learned in the first two courses into interpreter decision-making while interpreting accurately in both languages during clinical scenarios.

(Two practice/coaching sessions are included. You may attend up to 4 free sessions.)

3 to 4 Weeks

Final Evaluation

Live, Oral Skills Performance Evaluation (Simulation of a clinically-authentic scenario in both languages.)
NOTE: Simulation of the national certification exam is not included in this Program Plan. Review for national certification is not included in this Program Plan.

The Final is to be reserved in advance when Part 3 Module 1 is completed. The date may be reserved up to 30 days in advance.
