    Welcome to Horsense!

Horsense is a dynamic series of five-week equestrian riding camps for new riders
where children will learn about the basic care, safety and responsibility of riding a
horse as well as basic first aid, life skills, desert survival and team building. While
at Horsense, campers will work on development of character, self-esteem, respect and responsibility. Volunteers play a key role in this development serving as mentors to the elementary age campers.

    Volunteers should be prepared to:

    • Commit to all five weeks of the program to develop a bond with their
      elementary “buddy”.
    • Camp Dates: See separate schedule
    • Be ready to interact with their elementary buddy – experiencing Horsense together – giving them encouragement as needed.
    • Assist as needed with set-up and clean-up of camp.
    • Arrive at camp each Saturday by 8:30 am–please allow time to park in
front of the ranch office and walk into camp. We will be finished by 12:15.

    Additionally, Ride Crew Volunteers should:

    • Have basic horse related experience.
    • Be age 16 or older; or by instructor permission
    • Be able to stand and walk for an extended period.
    • Be able to walk with the horse and rider.

Each camp will consist of two sections:

    • Equestrian Instruction / Riding / Trail Ride
    • Classroom Instruction – (First Aid/Desert Animals/ Art/ Desert Safety

Horsense will provide each Volunteer with:

    • T-shirt
    • Hat
    • Water / snacks at each session.

Please always wear appropriate attire to camp - hat, jeans/long pants (no shorts) and closed toed shoes to camp. Please also bring a jacket/sweatshirt as needed – early morning at camp can be cold.

This is a special experience that you are sure to enjoy. A basic knowledge of
horses is an advantage, but not required. On the first day of camp, all necessary
information for a successful camp experience will be provided. In addition, all
participants will be required to turn in a completed Volunteer Information/Riders Assumption of Risk form with the required signature(s). You may not participate in the program without this signed form.

Camp is located at MacDonald’s Ranch:
    26540 North Scottsdale Road
    Scottsdale, AZ 85255
    (Scottsdale Road and Jomax)

You will need to park up front and walk back (to the south) to the Horsense trailer.

Looking forward to working with you!
