Safety plan
Safety Plan (The Forest Service is committed to increasing safety awareness among its employees and research cooperators. The Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest consists of rugged terrain with limited access and possibility of severe weather year-round. Appropriate preparations are necessary prior to engaging in field work. Provide a description of your safety guidelines for personnel working in both the woods and the field lab. This may include check-in/check-out procedures, job hazard analysis, and relevant training and safety equipment.)
Plan for Removing Materials Left on-site
Please describe the materials that will be present on site during the study, when will they be removed, and who will remove them.
Sample Archiving
Indicate whether there are any samples from this study that you wish to archive (so they could be used by others for future analysis). Detailed instructions for preparing meta-data and samples (including suggested containers and boxes) can be found at https://hubbardbrook.org/sample-archive/. Contact amey.bailey@usda.gov for further information.
Special Conditions
Please answer the isotope questions, if applicable, and use the text box for any other special conditions
Will this project involve the use of isotopic tracers?
Yes
No
How and where will the tracer be stored prior to use?
How might the tracer move from the site after application, and what additional sites/ecosystem compartments might be exposed?
What precautions will be taken during application to prevent contamination of adjacent sites
How will excess tracer be handled?
How will sites be permanently marked to indicate that tracers were added?
Where will the samples be processed?
Is there any need for tracer or labeled samples to be in the Forest Service or Towers Lab?
Describe any other special conditions
Special Considerations [If the proposed research involves potentially hazardous or contaminating materials (e.g. isotopes, introduced plants or animals, fertilizers or other chemical additions such as insecticides or herbicides), provide specific information about the material, including justification for use, potential problems or concerns, and a statement on precautions that will be taken with material handling and monitoring]
