  • Careful selection of a construction contractor is paramount for ensuring your timeline remains on your terms. Any delays early in the construction phase will inevitably ripple through all aspects of the project and can put your Opening Day in jeopardy. Obtaining references and recommendations from your colleagues in the industry will help you make an excellent and informed decision.

  • Primary Software

  • Practice Management software is the cornerstone of how your office functions. Imaging software is key to honing your craft and providing you with multiple perspectives of a patient. Both have traditionally run off of a server/workstation configuration, but cloud-based software is becoming increasingly popular due to its decentralized, "always-on" nature. Cloud-based imaging can carry unforeseen subscription costs with it, however, due to the large storage capacities required to house the data in the cloud.

  • Radiography

  • Radiography is an aspect of your practice that can continue to expand and grow as your business does. With 3D CB/CT systems, they will often include a PC directly from the manufacturer to act as the acquisition PC. Please denote below which pieces of hardware you envision starting with on Opening Day versus which you plan to acquire in the near future:

  • Communications and Camera Systems

  • Some IT service providers offer these services to their clients, but the choices are limited.  Your IT service provider can offer referrals for these services if they do not provide them.

  • Surveillance is pivotal to making sure your practice is being run your way. A robust security system also affords another layer of protection against liability or fraud. Please denote how many cameras you may need for each area that applies:

    Front Desk: Consult:
    Main Corridors:  Breakroom:
    External:

  • Printer, Scanner, Fax

  • Your black & white laser printer will be the true workhorse of the office. A color printer is more optional and will depend on if you plan to create customer-facing materials that will entice and educate. Even in this digital age, a dedicated scanner tied to your Front Desk or Billing PC can greatly increase office productivity. Dedicated fax machines are hastily becoming a relic of the past with the proliferation of digital faxing.

  • Operatory Options

  • The operatories need to be both a functional and efficient space for you and your staff as well as a comfortable and stress-free experience for your patients. Additional operatories can always be built out as your clientele and space continue to grow.

Keep in mind that while future operatories need not be furnished with equipment on Opening Day, you do want the future spaces wired out for such when the rest of the wiring is put in place.

  • Computer Placement

  • Please indicate how many computers you would like to have on Opening Day for the locations listed. Noting how many future PCs you would like to eventually have will also help the wiring team better plan your electrical and data layout, as mentioned above.

  • Remote Workers and Services

  • We are seeing a meteoric increase in offices that hire out their billing and insurance verification services to 3rd party companies that specialize in such tasks. Quite often, these remote workers will require a PC to use at the office, despite never setting foot there. Unless you are considering investing in a server of virtual machines, PCs can generally only have one person logged in and working on them at any given time. If you plan on pursuing these services, plan to have additional PCs set up. Fortunately, these PCs will typically not need a monitor attached.

  • Entertainment, Education, & Efficiency

  • Different practices will have different visions for what they would like to offer the clients beyond unmatched service and state-of-the-art care. If your practice caters mostly to children and teens, entertainment options in the reception area are a must-have. Is your dream more aligned with a luxurious spa day experience for your guests? Reinforce that theme with soothing music piped throughout.
