UW-SPONSORED VISAS AND UW TEACHING CONDITION If you answered Yes to the above question, the UW Postdoctoral Teaching and Teaching Compensation Policy states that teaching does not apply to Postdoctoral Scholars on UW-sponsored visas whose visa does not allow for additional duties or where teaching was not a specified activity outlined in the visa application/documentation. For visa applications we must include plans for participation in "American cultural activities." Our standard statement is "Scholar will experience American culture via the Pacific Northwest and Seattle area through visits to local museums, sites, and attractions (Museum of Flight, Museum of History and Industry, etc.); hiking diverse trails and engaging in other outdoors activities; and participating in local arts, music and cultural events. In addition to personal opportunities, Scholar will have similar opportunities for participation with their lab and supervisor through potluck events, holiday parties, movie and entertainment nights, happy hours, coffee hours, and other cultural outings.
