Life Jacket Details
the life jackets described within were purchased from verified retailers and or distributors; being added to iSUP Saugeen inventory between January 2022 and March 2022. All life jackets are inspected for quality and tested for in-water performance after each rental period. Life jackets are replaced after 8-10 years of service and any life jacket that has damage or deterioration that could potentially interfere with adequate buoyancy is removed from service. The Emergency Sea Rescue Equipment Trade Federation (FSR) suggests that the lifespan for foam filled life jackets and buoyancy aids for leisure boating is approximately 10 years. Please review these details and select the life jacket that is best suited for each individual. Please note that; life jackets need to fit snug in order to function properly as a buoyancy aid. If the life jacket is moving around while an individual is wearing it or if it rises above the shoulders please tighten adjustable straps so the life jacket fits snug. Adult life Jackets by STEARNS are classified as Type 1 PFD (with minimum buoyancy of 69N). Child and Youth life jackets by FLUID and BODY GLOVE are classified as a level 70 Buoyancy aid. All life jackets that are available for rental are approved by the Department of Transport Canada and meet government standards set by global safety certification company UL, whose mission is to deliver safety, quality, security, sustainability, and confidence to the life-jacket market.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Section 2.1 of Transport Canada’s Acceptance of Level 70 Buoyancy Aids Certified to UL12402-5 as Personal Flotation Devices states that, “Level 70 buoyancy aids certified by UL LLC as per the standard UL 12402-5 and UL-12402-9 are recognized by Transport Canada as substitutes for the personal flotation devices currently required under the Small Vessel Regulations and the Fishing Vessel Safety Regulations.” https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-transportation/marine-safety/acceptance-level-70-buoyancy-aids-certified-ul12402-5-personal-flotation-devices In addition, section 7.1 states that, “the personal flotation devices currently required under the Small Vessel Regulations and the Fishing Vessel Safety Regulations are those which, under the current Schedule of the Small Vessel Regulations, have to meet the following tests and standards:7.1.1 Canadian General Standards Board Standard CAN/CGSB-65.11-M88, Personal Flotation Devices;7.1.2 Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Standard UL 1180, Fully Inflatable Recreational Personal Flotation Devices, and the Canadian modifications set out in TP 14475 or;7.1.3 Canadian General Standards Board Standard CAN/CGSB-65.15-M88, Personal Flotation Devices for Children.7.2 Transport Canada has actively supported the development of standards in addition to the above that promote more innovative products that boaters are more likely to wear. As part of this effort, Underwriters Laboratories published the new standard, ANSI/CAN/UL-12402-5 Personal Flotation Devices – Part 5: Buoyancy Aids (Level 50) – Safety Requirements in December of 2015.7.3 UL 12402-5 provides options for both Level 70 and Level 50 buoyancy aids. Level 70 UL 12402-5 buoyancy aids provide increased options for design contributing to greater comfort and versatility while providing users a level of safety equivalent to that of PFDs certified to CAN/CGSB 65.11-M88 and CAN/CGSB 65.15-M88.7.4 Level 50 buoyancy aids are not included in this policy.7.5 This policy supports the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States Coast Guard and Transport Canada regarding Approval of Personal Lifesaving Appliances.” https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-transportation/marine-safety/acceptance-level-70-buoyancy-aids-certified-ul12402-5-personal-flotation-devices
