NOTE: This is for a job with us in Fort Wayne Indiana. We will be moving there within the next 3 months. Tryouts will be in December 2022. Start date is January 5th 2023.
Hey there! We are so excited you are interested in joining our team. Since I have started this business, it has always been my goal for this studio to operate as a team effort. Our demand is huge and we want to get as many quality suits out to people as possible.
Take your time with this application. This is an excellent opportunity to grow with us and if you are not selected in the first round you will be considered in the future. This should take you about 20-30 minutes to complete.
The Hiring Process
- Phase one: Application Please take your time on this! We want someone dedicated and responsible.
- Phase Two: Interview & Tryout During this period, I will try working with you for 1-2 days. This is not a test of your skills, but as a way to see if you like doing the job, and we work well with you. You will be required to come into the workshop and you will be compensated for your work. You may choose to meet Glitzy for Coffee in a public setting beforehand for an interview if you would like!
- Phase Three: Trial Period For the first two weeks, you will receive full pay, however your employment will be considered a trial period and can be terminated if you fail to meet expectations.
Job Description: Apprentice Builder
You will assist Glitzy in building customers suits, and with tasks such as printing, sewing, cutting faux fur, shaving fur, painting, cleaning the workshop, and other activities.
Basic Requirements
- You must be 18 years or older, and be legally allowed to be employed in the United States
- You must participate in the furry fandom whether through art or personal interest.
- You must have a clean queue- meaning that you do not owe people a backlog of art from years prior. You will need to show us an organized queue if you are an artist (even if you make it today)
- You must be able to commit to at least 20 hours of work a week
- You must be able to drive yourself.
- You must be okay with us performing a background check.
Location
Glitzy Fox Studios is a growing small business and is currently located on the first floor of a residence. If this is something that makes you uncomfortable, we recommend not applying. We are happy to meet with you before your audition in a public space, or you may bring a partner or friend for safety/support.
Hours
We operate 10am to 5pm, this is currently flexible and we may be able to accomodate your schedule.
Pay
We are able to offer you work as in independent contractor (if you are experienced) or as an employee on payroll.
- Independent Contractor: Responsible for your own agreed upon tasks and projects. You still have to come in here to work though! You file your own taxes.
- Employee: You will be on payroll and be paid an hourly wage. The starting pay is $10-18 per hour depending on experience level.
- You are paid biweekly, so twice a month
- Your pay will increase as your experience increases, and our studio grows we hope to increase your pay.
Some Basic FYIs and Tips for working with us
We have learned a lot in the process of trying to find good people to fill the team. These are some things you need to be aware of before joining up and you will be asked to say you acknowledge these items.
- I am still a new fursuit maker. I have only been making suits for about 2 years. I am by no means an expert and we will learn together.
- Team Members are entitled to a slot in our queue. However, You do not become eligible for this untill after at least 4 months of working here. Do not ask sooner.
- We are very defensive of our assets and have strict rules about photos and copying. If you plan to go into business as a fursuit maker in the future, you will need to do so with a vastly different style than ours. We will have you sign something prior to employment.
- We are happy to have your input in regards to improving my business ( you will be asked for your opinions), but do not try to run my business. This studio has been immensely successful and I have a Bachelors in business.
- Our business is generally SFW, but our client base often puts us into contact with NSFW material. Sometimes this is unavoidable, like in the case of reference sheets. We also are not against providing NSFW add ons to suits in the future.
- If you have any bewares out on you, you need to let us know now.
- You cannot use your position with us to leverage commissioners or artists. Please this is really gross dont do it.
- I will RARELY take your personal projects on or PHYSICALLY help you with your own projects. I will often answer your questions but I have a lot on my plate as is !
