*A weight ladder is an array of weights (in this case kettlebells) ranging from lighter to heavier. Typically, the lifter starts with the lightest weight, performs a single repetition of the lift, then proceeds to the next weight for another rep, and so on.
In the Community Lift UP! the lifter can start at the lightest weight, or come in heavier if they want to, as long as they feel safe doing so. Starting light and working your way up incremently acts as a warm up and in this way prepares the body for heavier weights to come.
Lifters may skip a weight, or take the same weight again, on their way up the ladder. They may take rest between weights, as long as they step away from the lifting area to do so, to allow other lifters to move through at their own pace as well. There is no specific time limit between weights, or lifts, though there will be a general start time for each lift.
Lifters may perform the lifts on one or both sides at their discretion.

There are no prizes for heaviest weight lifted, so please lift with your safety, joy and community in mind, and not the weight you lift.
Kettlebell Joy is a work of love, community, vulnerability, experimentation, and hope. We lift bells not as performance for comparison, or as competition for dominance, but for us. We lift for the way it makes us feel within our bodies, in our environment, and in our community. We lift as play, for enjoyment and recreation, and with curiosity and daring.
