HEALTH MISSION COMMITTEE GUIDELINES
NANNNA nurses volunteer their time and expertise to help their community and conducts frequent Education/Health missions to Nigeria. However, to transform these missions from just missions to a platform for improving health care delivery in Nigeria, NANNNA in 2012, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and the National Universities Commission (NUC). The goal is to develop and implement measurable strategies for resolving identified challenges and gaps, which constitute obvious, draw backs in nursing education and practice and to recognize volunteering as a catalyst for the enhancement of the socio-economic status of the community.
Objectives:
- Provides leadership and strategic direction for NANNNA Health Mission and related projects.
- Consult with membership, executive committee members and board of directors for the purpose of insuring coordination in planning, development and implementing NANNNA Medical Missions
- Conduct assessments of medical missions, environments, synthesizes pertinent information, and identifies implication strategies and benefits for NANNNA Healthcare program.
- Conducts research on non -for- profit healthcare programs, share with appropriate entities, and Disseminates findings at appropriate meetings.
- Responsible for overall planning, development, and implementation of all medical missions.
- Provision and procurement of services, equipment, and pharmaceutical products for the purpose of meeting NANNNA goals and objectives.
- Provides expert support to NANNNA membership.
Adopt Primary Health Center Initiative
The adoption of primary health care approach is based on our Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, Abia State “Center for Nursing Excellence” success story that uses consistency approach for better outcome.
The Initiative focuses on four areas:
■ (1) Improve Environment of Care:
■ (2) Capacity building of health care providers
■ (3) Data management and record-keeping
■ (4) Engage Partners to Build Momentum
Criteria for PHC Adoption
■ The primary health care (PHC) must be an existing part of the Local Government PHC
■ The PHC must have staff allocated to it by the government
■ Have commitment from the community (MOU) –LG Council Chairman, The King, community development committee, the PHC Medical Director and the Nurse In charge of the PHC
■ Commitment from members adopting the PHC (vested interest – 2 years documentation of work with the community/PHC)
■ Complete NANNNA Adopt PHC Initiative Proposal
■ Submit presentation about the community and the PHC
■ Commitment from the representatives who would lead the projects. One or more of the leads would need to physically visit and work with the local team for at least a week per year for the grant cycle.
NOTE: The four states (Abia, Edo, Imo, and Ogun) that were part of the initial project in 2019 are excluded from this cycle at this time.
