  • Jack Mooney Journalism Scholarship

    The Jack Mooney Journalism Scholarship provides assistance to students enrolled in the Media & Communication Program with an interest in Journalism. The awarded students will receive $500. For current college or graduate students only.

  • Richard Cobb Miller Scholarship

    Established by Herbert L. Shulman, James MacLean, and the Reverend James M. Coleman in memory of their friend, Richard Cobb Miller, a Johnson City journalist. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement and promise for success in a career in journalism. Provides a $500 stipend for each of the junior and senior years. For current college students only.

  • George Kelly Scholarship

    The George Kelly Scholarship was established in 1993.  It is awarded to deserving incoming freshman, transfer students, or current students majoring in Media and Communication who shows a discernible interest in journalism and excels in the classroom.  It is normally presented to students with a 3.5 GPA or better on high school work or transferring students with a 3.0 GPA or better at another college or university. Depending upon the availability of funds, the scholarship can also be awarded to a student with a 3.0 GPA or better already enrolled in the journalism program at ETSU. The scholarship may also awarded as a result of a journalism competition, such as a newspaper writing contest. In any case, the committee will consider the applicant’s demonstrated work and interest in journalism and potential for a career in journalism. Provides a $1,000 award, which students may keep up to 4 years. The award is competitive, with special consideration given to outstanding minority applicants.

  • Brenda Sandos Memorial Scholarship

    The Brenda Sandos Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshman, transfer students, or current college students majoring in Media and Communication. The recipient must be from Bristol, TN or Bristol, VA. The award is $500 and is renewable up to two years.
  • The following are the terms of eligibility for the Brenda Sandos Memorial Scholarship. By clicking yes, you are indicating that you understand you must uphold these policies to accept and maintain your scholarship.

  • A. Pearson Memorial Scholarship

    Established by family and friends, the A. Pearson Memorial Scholarship is in memory of A. Grace Pearson, class of 2021. A. was a Summa Cum Laude graduate in Media & Communication at ETSU and a talented, rising filmmaker, who aspired to create films that would make a difference in the world and uplift diverse communities. This scholarship shall be awarded to incoming freshman, transfer students, or current students majoring in Media and Communication with an interest in film. The award is $500 and is renewable up to two years.

  • Tim Cable Broadcast Memorial Scholarship

    The Tim Cable Broadcast Memorial Scholarship was established by Christina Cable, in memory of local story teller, Tim Cable. After graduating from ETSU, Tim began his long career in TV and Broadcast. He was a true master of the craft and used his gift to make this world a little brighter. The scholarship shall be awarded to incoming freshman, transfer students, or current students majoring in Media and Communication. The student must show promise in their storytelling and communication abilities, as well as enthusiasm for the broadcasting profession. The award is $500.

  • The Robert Smith Jr. / WCYB Scholarship

    The Robert Smith Jr/WCYB Scholarship is available to incoming freshman, transfer students, or current students majoring in Media and Communication. The award is $2,000 and can repeat for students interested in broadcasting from the WCYB market area with preference given to out-of-state students, minority students, and students who have a financial need..

  • The Gary Potter Memorial Scholarship

    The Gary Potter Memorial Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshman, transfer students, or current students majoring in Media and Communication with a focus in Radio or TV. The chosen recipient will receive a $1,000 award.
