The mission of The Presbyterian Church Archives’ web archiving program is to capture, manage, preserve and provide access to websites that illuminate the efforts, events, history and community of congregations, national office and groups within The Presbyterian Church in Canada.
The web archiving program is available through the web archiving service, Archive-It.org, an affiliate of the Internet Archive. The Presbyterian Church Archives will use Archive-It.org’s software to search through chosen websites and capture images of articles, photos or entire websites that are pertinent to a collection. The images will be for reference and research purposes only and will not be rented, traded or sold.
Scope: The web archiving program will retain online content related to the history, culture and current events of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. This capture of information will help fill gaps in the collection. The archivists will seek out web content from national office, congregations and other groups within the Presbyterian community.
Program Supporters: The program supporters shall consist of the archivists for The Presbyterian Church in Canada, trained on the Archive-It.org website, with consultation from the Principal Clerk and members of the Communications team. Suggestions by other staff, congregations and the Archives and Records Committee will be solicited for the team to discuss adding to the collection.
Content for this program will be of congregational life, national office resources and records, community events, educational resources, photographs, videos and other information from groups related to The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Delivery platforms will include general websites, digital newsletters, videos, social media pages, blogs and pdfs.
Selection Guidelines: Web content selected will have either evidential value or research value and should maintain a complete and accurate representation of the original content to the extent possible.
Permissions: The archivists will select and capture websites chosen for the publicly viewable archived collection. If a website owner (i.e., congregation) requests the site to be removed or made private, the archivists will do so.
