    Funding for independent student-faculty collaborations on approved research agendas.
  • Deadline for Summer 2026 CFCD undergraduate research fellowships:

    Please review the CFCD fellowship guidelines in the Moneybook, pg. 17-18, prior to submitting this application.

    Please submit simultaneous projects together in a single proposal, rather than submitting multiple applications.

    Requests should only be for Summer 2026 undergraduate fellowships, and should align with student summer housing blocks and schedules.

    Important Reminders:

    • The student(s) must be a currently enrolled Smith undergraduate
    • The student must be eligible to work in the U.S., must be residing in the U.S. at the time of work, and must file all required identification & tax paperwork with the Payroll Office prior to beginning work
    • The project should engage the student in meaningful and substantive research collaboration
      • Teaching assistance is not eligible for funding. For content-based teaching assistance, please work with your department on funding. For technical assistance for teaching remotely, apply through ITS
    • You, the faculty member, are responsible for hiring the student in Workday before the work begins.
    • The student must be able to work in-person. Hybrid/remote work opportunities are ineligible by the guidelines and policies of this funding opportunity.

    Faculty in any discipline whose research includes ANY direct interaction with human subjects must contact the Institutional Review Board PRIOR to conducting their research to determine whether a formal approval process is required.

    CFCD emphasizes that if the appropriate review and approval is not ensured prior to the research taking place, the College may need to deny or retract funding for noncompliant research.
