  • Mentor Information

  • Every candidate who enters this competition must have a mentor and include the mentor’s name and signature below.  The mentor may be one person or a two-person team (both would need to provide contact information and signature).

The mentor’s main role is to assist and support the candidate’s preparation for, and participation in, the state competition.  However, it is difficult to find a qualified mentor at the last minute.  For that reason we insist that each candidate lists the name and contact information of her mentor(s) on her application form.

The application will not be complete without a mentor listed and mentor completing an mentorship agreement. Candidates need to give this role serious thought.  Some candidates might not have anyone other than their mentor(s) in their corner to support them, especially if parents and family live a long distance away.  The mentor is not required to provide financial support.  The mentor will likely provide guidance with paperwork, arrange mock interviews, make suggestions regarding wardrobe and music choices, help in other ways if it is agreed between the candidate and the mentor, and most importantly support the candidate during the Open/Sweeper and the State Competition (if the candidate wins an Open or Sweeper Title).  The mentor needs to be someone with current knowledge of our state’s paperwork, timelines, policies, and procedures so that he or she is able to assist the candidate in the best way possible.  The mentor should be someone who is a current local volunteer or was recently a local volunteer in our state.  The mentor needs to commit to attending Spring Forum (May 2-4, 2025) and the state competition (July 6-12, 2025) should the candidate win an Open or Sweeper title.  Candidates shall not simply list a name on their application and then plan to ask the mentor later.  Both the candidate and the mentor(s) need to understand clearly that the mentor has committed to the mentorship role.  The candidate and the mentor should discuss the candidate’s potential needs and what the mentor is willing and able to do.  Only after such a discussion can a successful match take place.  Throughout the process of preparing for the Open/Sweeper there is a lot of communication that takes place between the admin team and the candidates.  We ask for the email addresses of the mentors so that we can include them in the communications and keep us all abreast of developments and processes.  A mentor may take on responsibility for more than one candidate, but the mentor needs to be realistic about his or her ability to be effective within geographic and time limitations.  The mentor also is required to let a candidate know if the mentor is committed to one or more other candidates.  Mentors must not be related to their candidate(s) by blood or marriage.

I have read and understand the Mentor requirement.

  • In applying for the Miss Washington Open/Sweeper Competitions, I do comply with these rules.

I am female; a U.S. citizen between the ages of 18 and 27; not married and not pregnant; never convicted of any crime and of good moral character.  I have lived (or) worked full-time in Washington State 30 days prior to the competition; (or) am a full-time student at a school in Washington State.  I accept the time, method, and manner of selection of the competition.  I am aware that I must pay the $50 registration fee for both the Open and the Sweeper ($100 total) and there are no refunds on registration or state competition fees.  I am aware that if selected for one of the Open or Sweeper titles I will be required to pay additional fees to compete at state including but not limited to a production fee and a state registration fee ($325) along with possible national fundraising requirements.

Competition consists of Private Interview 30%, Talent/HERStory 20%, Health and Fitness 20%, Evening Gown 20%, and On-Stage Conversation 10%

If accepted, I will enter into a contract with the competition and fulfill my duties as a candidate.  If selected as Miss Cherry Blossom, Miss Eastside, Miss Rainier, Miss Puget Sound, Miss Tahoma, Miss Liberty, Miss Northwest or Miss Olympics, I will compete in the Miss Washington Competition in July 2025.  I am aware that if selected as one of the title holders I must pay $325 to compete at the state competition. By submitting this application I am committing to competing in both the Open and Sweeper (unless I win one of the Open titles). I understand and agree to the Mentor requirement.
