Per our Society's Constitution, all financial members of the Society (i.e. any member that is not an honourary 'life member') are classed as 'ordinary members'.
Ordinary membership is then further classed into two sub-categories:
1. Voting Members, and
2. Non-Voting Members.
Voting status is conferred to those signing on with us that are undertaking a Cairns-based law degree through James Cook University.
The membership fee incurred for the two classes of Members are the same. Therefore, the benefits that we offer are tangibly the same (discounts, opportunities and more), the only difference being voting status.
Voting status allows you to stand at or vote in our elections. We host a Committee election at least once a year, usually at our Annual General Meeting. The next AGM will be held on October 17, 2024.
This is a provision that is required for us to maintain good standing with our oversight body (the Cairns Office of the James Cook University Student Association), under whom we are affiliated for liability insurance and auditing purposes.
