2022 HCBS Hybrid Conference: Call for Sessions

The Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Conference, hosted by ADvancing States, is the premier national conference that annually brings together state, federal, and local policymakers as well as leaders who administer, manage, and deliver waiver and other HCBS programs. The purpose of the HCBS Conference is to share practices and policies that improve state systems delivering long-term services and supports (LTSS) for all ages and abilities.

ADvancing States is currently accepting in-person and virtual session proposals for the 2022 HCBS Hybrid Conference. You will be able to indicate your preferences (either in-person or virtual) on the form. The HCBS Conference will be held on August 14-18, 2022 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, DC. All sessions will be one hour in length. Please note that accepted speakers will be required to register and pay the attendance fee to participate in the conference.

The deadline to submit a proposal for the 2022 HCBS Conference is Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Helpful Tips for Submission
Here are some helpful tips to improve the likelihood of your proposal being selected for the 2022 HCBS Conference Agenda:

1. The 2022 HCBS Conference will feature 60-minute sessions. Please plan accordingly.

2. Do not repeat a session you submitted to any prior HCBS Conferences.

3. Highlight an innovative solution to a problem that multiple states are facing.
- Hint: Do not highlight solutions or practices that have been done for years in dozens of states
4. In general, we will not accept academic submissions.
- Hint: We are interested in turning policy into practice.
5. Broaden your session topic to include more than one age group or ability.
- Hint: We are always looking for a good balance of sessions and are particularly interested in ensuring there are adequate sessions on issues related to aging.
6. Consider partnering with other organizations, states, health plans, etc.
- Hint: Sessions highlighting opposing views can be interesting.
7. Include a state speaker/contributor as part of the session.
- Hint: If you include speakers from multiple states as part of your session, you are almost guaranteed a spot on the agenda.
8. Craft a catchy session title, but one that also explains the topic. Please note that session titles must be 100 characters or less.
- Hint: Consider using humor in your title to grab people's attention.
9. Be prepared to submit a detailed description of your session (500 word limit) alongside a short summary that grabs people's attention.
- Hint: For the shorter version, pretend you are tweeting about your session and describe it in 200 characters or less.
10. Plan a session with a unique format.
- Hint: A unique session is one that eschews PowerPoints.
