    Please note that new judge applications now require a non-refundable application fee of $20.

  • Upon application, and before being approved as an apprentice-judge, there will be a public call for feedback period. If any past misconduct is reported and verified by the Board of Directors, the application may be denied. RATS! Canada  will uphold all Canadian Kennel Club bans as they apply to individuals. Applicants must disclose any bans from any other dog sport organizations.*

  • Are you, or have you ever been, a judge with another dog sport association?*

  • Have you already spoken with a judge under which you would like to apprentice?*
  • If no, are you comfortable with a mentor-judge being assigned to you?
  • Do you understand and agree that you may have to travel, at your expense, in order to obtain the minimum required experience in order to become a licensed judge?*
  • Do you understand that an apprentice judge cannot accept payment from a trial host?*
  • Do you understand that it is entirely your responsibility to track the hours and runs for which you have apprenticed and to ensure your judge-mentor signs your tracking sheet?*
  • Do you understand that you have 24 months from the date of your first apprentice assignment to complete the minimum required experience in order to become a licensed judge?*
  • Do you certify that you have fully read, understood, and will adhere to and apply the rules found in the RATS! Canada Rule book?*
  • Do you personally own rats, or have rats in your care that meet RATS! Canada requirements that may be used in a trial?*
  • Do you understand that failure to meet required Apprentice Judge duties, minimum requirements, or should any complaints of actions/incidents filed with the association be found to be sufficiently severe, RATS! Canada can terminate your status as an apprentice or licensed judge?*
