Title of Research Project: Pretravel preparation, travel-related health knowledge and preventive behaviors among international university students in Thailand.

Study sites: 6 collaborative universities (Mahidol uiversity, Khon Kaen University, Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Mai university, Prince of Songkhla University, Burapha University) and other universities in Thailand.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā You are invited to participate in research about pretravel health uptake among international university students because you are an international university student, who is currently studying in Thailand's university. This research aims to examine the rate of pretravel consultation, level of travel-related health knowledge, and preventive practices. In addition, the study explores the prevalence of common travel-related health illnesses among international university students in Thailand.This study requires a minimum of 318 participants. The duration for the data collection is in July - December,2022.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Participating in this study may not benefit you directly, but the results obtained from this study will provide a piece of background knowledge to develop a novel approach to pre-travel health care for future international university students. The information you will share with us if you participate in this study will be kept confidential to the law's full extent.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā This study is a part of the Master's thesis in Master's degree of Clinical Tropical Medicine (International program), Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, which is conducted by Sawettachai Jaita, M.D. (the principal investigator).
There are 6 requirements to participate in this study:
1.)International university students coming to study in Thailand for the 1st time.
2.)Age ā„ 18 years old.
3.)Primarily traveling to Thailand for educational purpose.
4.)Able to read and understand English.
5.)Willing to participate in the study.
6.)Having lived in Thailand for less than a year.
Ā Ā Ā Ā You will be surveyed by the online questionnaire which comprises 5 sections and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.
Section 1: Demographic data
Section 2: Pre-travel preparation
Section 3: Knowledge of travel-related health problems
Section 4: Preventive behaviors while staying in Thailand
Section 5: Travel-related health illnesses during this trip in Thailand
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā This survey includes questions about some sensitive topics that can be discomfort to some people. You can skip those questions, or select "prefer not to disclose" if you do not want to answer them.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā After completing the questionnaire, the information will be automatically collected and sent to the principal investigator's e-mail. Then, the information will be manually transferred to Microsoft Excel. Each participant's data will be recorded and kept in a locked file, which only the principal investigator and the research team members will be able to see. All participants' data will be kept securely for a period of 5 year after the survey. Your private information will be kept confidential, it will not be disclosed individually, but will be disseminated as part of the overall results. Individual information may be examined by groups of persons, e.g. the Ethics Committee, funding organizations.Ā While the investigators will keep your information confidential, there are some risks of data breeches when sending information over the internet that are beyond the control of the investigators.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Your participation in this survey is voluntary. Refusal to participate or discontinuing the participation in this study will not result inĀ penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
Ā Ā Ā Ā If you complete the questionnaire, you will receive the line sticker gift, which the study's principal investigator created. Access to the study's line account will be provided on the final page of this questionnaire. After adding the line account, the line sticker gift will be sent to your line id. This collection of line stickers includes 20 common phrases and words used in daily conversation while living in Thailand. Those who do not complete the survey will not be able to receive the line sticker gift.
