Work Samples

Artists are not required to provide a sample of the work they intend to develop during the residency. You must submit work samples for either music (if applying as a composer/musician) or text (if applying as a writer/lyricist/librettist). Please see specific requirements below.
Composers/Musicians:

In MP3 format, two (2) contrasting compositions or excerpts from compositions that combined total no more than 20 minutes. These compositions can be completed works or works in progress. These works should show how you write for voice or how you write for an ensemble of at least 3 instrumentalists. There is no genre requirement or restriction.
Please also upload an example (PDF or other format) of how you would communicate your musical ideas for others to perform. (i.e. music staff notation, charts, score, etc.)

Writers/Lyricists/Librettists:

In PDF format, please submit two (2) contrasting writing samples that reflect your dramatic and lyric writing skills. Each work sample should range between 5 and 7 pages. If longer samples are submitted, please indicate the specific page range you wish the panel to review.

Next Steps
- All applicants will be informed of the results of their application by February 23, 2024.
- The selection process will be a two-step process.  Up to 10 creative teams or artists will be invited to an interview round with Collective members and Opera Theatre staff in early January.  Interviews will take place online.
- Finalists selected for the interview round who are seeking creative partners will have an additional interview scheduled to discuss creative partnership options. 
- Feedback will be available to finalists by request upon completion of the selection process.
