SCC Gallery Exhibition Application Form Logo
  • Exhibition Application Form

    Deadline for application: November 01, 2025
  • Welcome! Please review the following information before continuing to the next page.

    The SCC Exhibitions department may schedule exhibitions up to two years in advance. The SCC is currently scheduling exhibitions for 2027 & 2028

    Deadline for Submission:

    November 01, 5:00 pm CST. This form will be automatically disabled at the noted time. Applicants will be notified of the curatorial committee's selections in January 2026.

    The SCC Gallery is located in Saskatoon, SK at 813 Broadway Avenue. Our gallery program focuses on Saskatchewan craftspeople and curators, though the Gallery may choose to present one touring/out-of-province exhibition each year.

    Since the early 1980s the SCC has operated a public gallery dedicated to the exhibition of craft. This support was considered important for craft in Saskatchewan, as at the time many public and commercial galleries tended to represent solely visual art. The SCC Gallery continues to be committed to showcasing craft artists.

    Applications including visual art (painting, drawing, etc.,) may be considered IF the inclusion of visual art is integral to an exhibition which has a primary focus on craft.

    For detailed information on the selection process, exhibition priorities, and gallery specifications, please visit saskcraftcouncil.org

    If you are unsure if your application is appropriate for the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery, please contact us before continuing with this application.

  • GALLERY DETAILS

    The SCC gallery is approximately 950 square feet. There is a reception desk in the back of the gallery, where a staffperson supervises both the gallery and our fine craft gift shop (to the left and back of the reception desk). There is a large window at the front of the gallery, which has UV protection coating.  The walls of the gallery are backed with plywood. The SCC has a selection of plinths, shelves, and floor plinths which can be provided for exhibitions.

    Applications which would request changes to the colour of the walls or otherwise require dramatic intervention to the gallery are typically unable to be accommodated, and alternative plans should be discussed with the exhibition coordinators prior to application.

    GALLERY POLICIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Saskatchewan Craft Council encourages creative freedom and respectful collaboration. CARFAC has outlined the principles of responsible creative collaboration with Indigenous and other cultures:

    1.         Free prior and informed consent;

    2.         Shared control over process and product;

    3.         Acknowledgement and attribution;

    4.         Respect for cultural differences; and

    5.         Reciprocity and benefit sharing.

    It is expected that all exhibition applications meet these standards in the creation of the artwork. More information on CARFAC’s appropriation guide can be found here. The Canadian Crafts Federation has also provided a resource handbook about cultural appropriation in Craft in Canada, which you can find by clicking here.

    For each exhibition the SCC will provide

    • Installation assistance
    • Insurance
    • Promotion
    • Documentation
    • Partial compensation for shipping (up to a maximum cap to be determined with the Executive Director)
    • and Artist Royalties to be paid to the artist (CARFAC - Category 1). If an artist talk is agreed upon by both parties, an honorarium will be provided to the artist.

    The SCC regrets we cannot pay CARFAC standard royalties for group exhibitions. Royalties for group exhibitions are paid at a different rate than the CARFAC recommendations. Artist talks are provided an honourarium of $150. Please contact us if you would like further information or clarification on these royalties.

    Policy around sale of work:

    Artists applying for exhibition may choose to have work for sale, or not for sale. The SCC Gallery will be responsible for processing any exhibition sales and arranging shipping with purchasers. A 40% commission will be retained by the SCC on any sales. The commercial or non-commercial nature of an exhibition is not part of the criteria for selection.

    Deadline for Submission:

    November 01, 5:00 pm CST. This form will be automatically disabled at the noted time.
    Applicants will be notified of the curatorial committee's selections in January 2026.

  • Part 1: Contact Information

    If applying for a group exhibition (two or more participants), please list only ONE main contact person. This person will be considered the contact for notification of the curatorial committee's selections.
  •  / /
  • Pronouns: Why do we ask for this information?

    We ask every craftsperson or artist we work with how they would like to be addressed, for the simple purpose of making sure we use the most respectful language when discussing their work and practice.

    Every person uses pronouns to describe themselves and others, whether these are the most common personal pronouns we know (she/her, he/him, they/them) or just the many types of pronouns that we use in every day language (We, My, Mine, Ours, I, You).

    If you'd like to know more about how personal pronouns relate to gender identity, click here.

  • Self-Identification

    For main contact person - Optional

  • Written Proposal - optional questionnaire

  • In this section you may choose to answer the following questions in the space provided OR submit a written proposal on the following page.

    Some questions are required - others are optional. You must respond to the required questions. Provide as much detail as you can.

    This option is available since answering direct questions about an exhibition may be more useful to applicants, rather than a standard written proposal. Please consider which option you'd prefer.

    You do not need to do both.

  • Required Questions

    The following information is required. If you choose to include this information in a written attached proposal, you may skip ahead to section 3.

    An exhibition proposal typically describes the appearance and theme of the exhibition; materials used; availability or other considerations for scheduling; and/or any community or educational elements. An exhibition proposal should include a description of the artistic content of the exhibition as well as the practicalities.

    Please make it clear in your proposal if your supplied images are examples of the specific works that will be in the exhibition, or if they are examples of works that are planned or are examples of the artists' skill or practice. This greatly helps the curatorial committee when evaluating images alongside the exhibition proposal.
