VICTIM ADVOCATE TRAINING
LGBTQ people face tremendous barriers in access to legal systems and other essential resources due to bias and discrimination. Participants will learn how to provide inclusive and affirming legal assistance that can help LGBTQ survivors of violence overcome barriers to services and safety. Participants will gain increased knowledge in the following areas: (1) terms associated with LGBTQ* communities;(2) cultural considerations; (3) the impact of oppression and privilege on LGBTQ people; (4) anti-violence legal issues; (5) the unique barriers LGBTQ people face; and (6) LGBTQ-specific best practices for service providers in a legal setting.
