  • Christmas Backpacks Application 2025
    Deadline: June 13, 2025

  • The Christmas Backpacks are designed to help you show the love of Christ to impoverished children and youth within your community in a tangible way.

  • To those preparing backpacks we suggest that each contain: hygiene items, zip-top single serving food items, a new toy, new clothing, a Bible or New Testament in a readable translation for children, and “The Christmas Story”.

    We request that each backpack be age-and gender-appropriate and identified with the colored ribbon system (Blue for boys and pink for girls; then by age groups – purple for ages 2-3, yellow for ages 4-7, green for ages 8-10, red for ages 11-14, and white for ages 15-17.)

    TBMB Compassion Ministries will:

    • Promote the need and communicate to Tennessee Baptist Churches how Christmas Backpacks are making a difference in the lives of these children.

    • Coordinate with the SBC entities, churches, church planters and compassion ministry centers to determine the need and logistics for collection and distribution of the backpacks.

    • Assist in providing ideas and/or training in planning the local distribution of the backpacks, when requested.

  • Christmas Backpacks Distribution Site will:

    • Arrange for pick-up of backpacks from collection site and transportation to the distribution site.

    • Plan the distribution event — time and place – after Thanksgiving and before Christmas.

    • Determine the reasonable number of backpacks needed for impoverished children and teenagers.

    • Complete and submit the application.

    • Submit your plan for sharing the gospel during the distribution event. We will gladly assist with ideas or training if requested.

    • Confirm the “The Christmas Story” is in each backpack or given to each child and teenager present.

    • Assure that each backpack will be given out by Christmas. In the event you have extra backpacks, please contact us so they can be used at other events.

    • Thoroughly examine each backpack for the appropriateness of each item.

  • Regarding the distribution of the Christmas Backpacks in Public Schools:

    • Our preference is to work through a local church or a compassion ministry site that works closely with local churches.

    • If you are distributing the Christmas Backpacks in a local school, please obtain a copy of the suggested contents (www.tnbaptist.org/backpacks or request it from ckidd@tnbaptist.org ) and share it with the administration. It is not permissible to remove the Christmas Story and Bibles from the Christmas Backpacks to appease a local school or ministry.

    • We recommend background checks for all volunteers who will be working directly with the children.

    • A maximum of 500 Christmas Backpacks per site unless you apply for an exemption in writing explaining the number needed and reason for requesting a larger number of Christmas Backpacks.

    • We do not guarantee the request will be met. Complete individual applications for each distribution site (i.e. multiple elementary schools, listing them each by name).

    • The gender/age breakdown is for those who have partners. We cannot guarantee the age group breakdown in a general delivery.
